Does anyone know what the exact APN settings should be for:

TRACFONE.VZWENTP

and

VZWINTERNET

Are they the same?

On my Tracfone branded Samsung J3 Luna Prothe access point name is set to VZWINTERNET. It was auto-set that way when sim was activated and it works perfectly. The APN settings are:

Name: Verizon Internet
APN; VZWINTERNET
Proxy: Not set
Port: Not set
Username: Not set
Password: Not set
Server: Not set
MMSC: Not set
Multimedia message proxy: Not set
Multimedia message port: Not set
MCC: 311
MCN: 480
Authentication type: Not set
APN type: default,dun,supl
APN protocol: ipv4/ipv6
APN roaming protocol: ipv4/ipv6
Turn APN on/off: APN turned on
Bearer: unspecified
Mobile virtual network operator type: None
Mobile virtual network operator value: Not set

Is this the way TRACFONE.VZWENTP is set just with a different APN name? If notwhat are the settings?

Another question: Does anyone here with a properly working Tracfone branded smartphone with native sim activated have their APN set to TRACFONE.VZWENTP?

Added: I do see one slight difference between a Luna and Luna Pro with VZWINTERNET as APN
On the Lunathe APN type is default, dun

I'm curious about this partly because when I get a brand new TF Branded Samsung J3 Orbitwith the unactivated sim in itit is set for TRACFONE.VZWENTP in Settings/Connections/Mobile Networks/Access Point Names. It is set as the APN. I looked at it briefly and the settings looked the same as VZWINTERNET settings. I took a screenshot of it but accidentally deleted it so I'm not a 1000% sure.

Nowif I want to sim swap from Luna ProI have to change this APN in the J3 Orbit to VZWINTERNET because the TRACFONE.VZWENTP APN does not allow LTE data to work. When I spoke with a rep she thought it should be TRACFONE.VZWENTP (though sometimes they are clueless) and she had me set it that way when I was activating itbut when sim was activated in J3 Orbitit auto-set to VZWINTERNETeven with it previously set for TRACFONE.VZWENTP. So upon official Tracfone activation it is set for VZWINTERNET. Changing it to TRACFONE.VZWENTP after results in data fail.

I just think it is odd that it was sort of factory set one way and then doesn't work (though to be fair I think my TF Crown came with VZWINTERNET set as APN). AlsoI get a strange "Open Channel for BIP" message on the TF Orbit and sometimes the TF Crown. Another person complained about this on another forum with a TF Crown. Oftentimes it disappears and stays away but its been a little persistent with a current new J3 Orbit and sim swap lately. I have not activated this one/sim yet. It will still happen after activation but much less. I know it is connected to the sim since If I remove itit stops. I've read different things about this.. that is is connected to the browser or to phone updates.. I wonder sometimes if the APN is off slightly/somehow and is causing this.

I think I'm going to reset it.

Looks like this is related to Verizon setting a PRL.

My Moto G6 on Tracfone/Verizon has the APN as: VZWINTERNET.

None of the other fields are editable.

It works finebut I may not have tried MMS.

Thanks ST Dog

So the differences I see besides Name and APN are:

TRACFONE.VZWENTP

MMSC: http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms
Bearer: GPRSePRPDHSUPA,HsPAPHSPAHSDPALTEUMTSEDGE

In VZWINTERNET it's

MMSC: Not set
Bearer: Unspecified.

I called yesterday to ask about APNs and one person had no idea and another suggested the difference in how APNs are assigned have to do with model of phone and Tracfone related company. I told her well it seems that most Tracfone branded phones come with VZWINTERNET and she said that is correct. Maybe I should try again and see if I can get better answer.

ST DOGwhat do you think about this "Open Channel for BIP" message?
I've only seen it on the new Tracfone branded Samsung phones with Oreo 8.0... the J3 Orbit and J7 Crown. It tends to stop after displaying its intermittent message for 5 minutes or so after turning phone on or restart. It comes back again on restart/turn on. I've been through every app on the phoneall the settingsmade sure the browsers are fully updated. I know someone on another forum who has seen it on J7 Crown. I've read a little bit about this message - and I've tried all suggested fixes but it always comes back on restartturn on. It does it with unactivated sim or with a sim swap from my luna pro. And it does it when it is activated as I recall. It does not do it with no sim in it.

I restarted J7 Crownand here is an example of the message appearing within 30 seconds on the home screen:
It will continue for another 5-10 minutes or somessage displaying from 1 second to 7 seconds at different intervals.
Happens on all screens when it is doing it. I thought that checking for updates or running maintenance got rid of it.. but I think it just may be 5-10 minutes of time and then it just stops until a restart. Thanks.

https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/help/channel-bip-t3339899 says:
"i found this at another forum at it worked for me: go to settingsaboutdownload latest update manually. My phone didn't find any updatesbut the annoying "open channel for BIP" have disapeared try ithope it works!"

You could also try checking search results from something like https://www.google.com/search?q=open+channel+for+bipif you haven't already.

Thanks Boz1yeah I saw those I tried everything.
It does stop after a bit but then returns after restart/turn off/on. It's annoying.

I know with my Samsung Skywhenever I restart/turn off/on the phonea message in the upper left corner says "Searching for service".
It stays on my lock screen and then disappears after a minute or so.
It is the only Samsung phone I have and the only one that has this quirk. :cell:

My Samsung Luna Pro does that too but only for like five seconds or so on the lock screen. If I open the lock screen earlier it goes away then.

I can't guarantee those were not tweaked by me. I honestly don't remember now.

Typically those are not set on Verizon.

Can't help with the BIP message. Never encountered it myself.

I see "open channel for BIP" on my J7 Crown at least once a month or maybe two times a month. I never could figure it out since it disappears within seconds of seeing it.

Maybe if you restarted the phone you would see it like within 30 seconds. That's how it is on mine. Takes anywhere from 5-15 minutes to stop its appearances. Maybe it's a firmware issue that will never be fixed? Does that get updated on TF with the security updates? I don't know what it is. At least it does go away. J3 Orbit does the same thing.

I know my J7 Crown did an update before it was activatedbut it has not got any since that. I know even my J7 Sky Pro got a few updates even after getting activated. Plus I know my brother has Tracfone branded S7 and S9+and they have got monthly updates. His S9+ has Android Pie now.

Yeah my Luna Pro got I believed three updates... I guess these are security and baseband updates.
My Crown has the same baseband version as yoursbut I never saw it actually update.
Wow so some tracfone branded Samsung phones update regularly and get OS updates.
I guess Motos do that too.

After reading this thread I was curious how my phones are set. Never looked before. My factory unlocked E4 activated on PP with a PP (Tracfone) SIM shows APN as VZWINTERNET.

My Verizon branded LG K4 has the SIM that I originally activated on PP with a new Tracfone branded Alcatel My Flip with the TF SIM that came with it. The APN in the K4 showed both the APNs. The TRACFONE.VZWENTP and the VZWINTERNET with buttons beside each; neither turned on. I don’t recall if I ever tried data after I did the SIM swap from the Alcatel since I only use wifibut I know I do have VoLTE.

I turned the VZWINTERNET button on and tried data and couldn’t get a data connection. So I went back to turn the VZWINTERNET off and turn TRACFONE.VZWENTP on instead. I couldn’t turn VZWINTERNET off ! So dumb me I hit “reset to default”. The screen refreshed and now only the VZWINTERNET button was there; the TRACFONE.VZWENTP was gone.

I went to PP chat and asked what my APN for the phone should be. They said to edit the VZWINTERNET to TRACFONE.VZWENTP and save it. I did and now data is working. Only the TRACFONE.VZWENTP button is now showing. I mentioned to them my other phone has VZWINTERNET set and works fine. At first they said all phones should be TRACFONE.VZWENTP but then said maybe model of phone could make a difference since my E4 is ok with VZWINTERNET.

My thinking is that since the K4 is a Verizon branded phone the VZWINTERNET APN was in there by default and when I put the activated Alcatel SIM in itit showed the TRACFONE.VZWENTP APN too. Allowing one to be selected or it defaults to the one the carrier uses. But neither was selected to start with and like I saidI don’t recall if I ever tried data on the K4 before (I did on the Alcatel) and I wiped out the TRACFONE APN when I did the “reset to default”.

Sorry for the long summary. Maybe this answers something or doesn’t about APN assignment between branded and unlocked unbranded.

I just looked at the Tracfone rebranded to Total Wireless MyFlipand it uses VZWINTERNET. Plus I just found out that the MyFlip got a system update too. The build number when from WUFR to WUFZ.

Got that update on my Tracfone MyFlip with Page Plus about a month ago. It sent a notification first.

Where did you find the APN on your MyFlip ? I looked in mine and can't find it.

Still wonder what makes some phones get the VZWINTERNET and some the TRACFONE.VZWENTP APN ?

When I put my Page Plus Sim into MyFlip I get something about adding HD Voice to my account then the call fails.

It is in Settings -> Cellular & Data -> APN Settings -> Data Settings.
