Martinsville Speedway holds a special place in NASCAR history. First opened in 1947it is the oldest track still on the Cup Series schedule and remains a true short-track classic. Tucked away in RidgewayVirginiathe half-mile oval is shaped like a paperclip – 0.526 miles of long straightsflattight turnsand constant contact.
Its size may be smallbut the action is anything but. Martinsville is famous for close-quarters racingwhere drivers lean on each other lap after lap in the fight for position. The mix of asphalt corners and concrete straightaways only adds to the challengecreating a rhythm that rewards patienceprecisionand toughness. It’s not called the “Half-Mile of Mayhem” for nothing.
The compact layout means fans are always close to the actionwith clear views across the track from almost any seat in the 60,000-plus grandstand. The roar of stock cars nose-to-tail around the oval makes Martinsville an intense experience for both newcomers and long-time followers.
The crown jewel of the season here is the Xfinity 500a fall NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs race that often plays a decisive role in the championship chase. The track also stages NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series and Craftsman Truck Series eventspacking the weekend with wheel-to-wheel competition.
Beyond the racingMartinsville offers a lively midway and Fan Zone filled with merchandise trailersdisplaysand live entertainment. And no trip is complete without trying the track’s legendary hot dogs – a tradition as famous as the racing itself.
