Partial access for members ages 13-17
Members on your plan aged 13-17 have their own Optum account with private health information. Members under 13 will be granted such an account when they turn 13. Optum enforces this policy by necessity to align with laws in the states in which we operate.
State laws and medication information restrictions
State laws vary widely in their restrictions on disclosing the medical information of minors. These restrictions vary by stateby ageby conditionby the minor’s medical statusby which individual gave consent for treatmentand many other potential factors. Optum follows the most strict rules set forth by any stateas we operate in all states.
Optum is unable to provide individualized reviews
Many factors affect whether Optum is permitted to disclose a minor’s health informationso each potential disclosure of a minor’s information would need to be reviewed to determine whether disclosure was permissible under applicable state law. As it would be impossible for Optum to review and each disclosure of health informationOptum has crafted this general policy to protect the health information of members aged 13-17.
