What to do

  1. Use the touch screen to verify that the Console Button Input setting is set to OnOuiSim if there are any wireless controllers paired to the system.
  2. Check that your system has the latest system update.
  3. Calibrate the control sticks.
    • How to calibrate the control sticks
      1. From the HOME Menu select System Settingsthen scroll down the menu on the left-hand side and select Controllers and Sensors.
        The Controllers and Sensors screen

      4. If the calibration is complete but is not immediately reflected when testing the control sticksdo the following:
        • Set the console to sleep modethen press the POWER Button to "wake it up" again.
        • Reset the Joy-ConThe Diagram showing the side of the Joy-Con controller or Pro ControllerThe Diagram showing the back of the Pro Controller by pressing the SYNC Button oncethen press any other button to power it on again.
    • Issue only occurs in a specific game or application
      1. Check for any available software updates for that game.
      2. Check the in-game options and instructions for any unique control settings that may affect movement.
        • For exampleMario Kart 8 Deluxe features tilt controls that may give the impression that the control sticks aren’t responding correctly. Those tilt controls can be deactivated in-game.
    • Unable to calibrate or issue persists after calibrating

If the control sticks cannot be calibratedor if they still don't respond correctly in any applicationthe console will need to be serviced.
