Yesthis is completely normal behavior with the
Toyota app and Connected Services (including Remote Connect features like remote start/lockvehicle statusetc.) on newer models like your 2026 Camry.
Why Scanning the VIN/QR Code Doesn't Work for the Second Phone
The vehicle can only be enrolled/registered to
one primary Toyota account at a time. Your wifeas the main driver/profile in the car's multimedia systemsuccessfully claimed the car when she scanned the QR code or entered the VIN — this links the vehicle's Connected Services (Remote ConnectService Connectetc.) exclusively to her Toyota account.
When you try the same process on your phone with a different/separate Toyota accountthe app rejects it because the VIN is already tied to her account. Toyota's system doesn't allow multiple independent accounts to own/control the same vehicle simultaneously for these remote features.
Can Two Phones Use the Toyota App with Full Remote Features?
Yesmany people (including couples sharing a Camry or other Toyotas) do this successfullybut
the standard and most reliable way is to share the same Toyota account login on both phones:
- On your phonedownload the Toyota app (if not already) and log in using your wife's exact email/username and password for her Toyota account.
- The car should appear in the app automaticallyand you'll have full access to remote featuresvehicle status4G/Wi-Fi detailsetc.—just like she does.
- Both phones can be logged in at the same time with no issues (no kick-outs or conflicts reported by most users).
- Notifications and controls work from either phone.
This is the method Toyota support often recommendsand it's commonly used by spouses/family members sharing one vehicle.
Other Options (With Limitations)
- Guest Driver/Secondary User — Some older app versions or models had a "guest driver" or "add authorized user" featurebut on current 2024–2026 Toyotas (including Camry)it's buggy or non-functional for full remote access. Adding a guest often transfers ownership temporarilykicking the primary user outand requires re-activating in the car to switch back. Most owners avoid this entirely.
- Separate Profiles in the Car — The car's multimedia system supports up to 3 user profiles (1 primary + 2 additional) for things like seat/memory settingsfavoritesetc. These are separate from remote app access and work fine with different phones/keysbut they don't grant independent Remote Connect in the app.
Tips from Other Owners
- If you ever need to switch primary ownership (e.g.if you become the main user later)the current primary can remove the vehicle in their appthen you can claim it by scanning the QR code in the car's display.
- For privacysome couples just share the login—it's simple and works seamlessly.
- The in-car profiles (for driving positionetc.) can still be set up separately for each of youeven if the app is shared.
This setup is a common complaint with Toyota's Connected Services (the app hasn't changed much in years)but sharing the login resolves it for pretty much everyone. If you run into any login issuesToyota Connected Services support (1-800-331-4331) can confirm the account status. Enjoy the new Camry—it's a great car!
