But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an Americanand nothing but an American ... There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an Americanbut something else alsoisn't an American at all. We have room for but one flagthe American flag ... Your quote goes for Fathers as well (of course). Treat the child's Mother (and everyonefor that matter) with respect and you will teach them to respect others. If more parents led by "good example"the world would be a much better place (IMHO).

Of course not everyone will learn from that examplebut I think it would help greatly in that peer pressure would perhaps turn towards doing wellrather than doing wrong. I could be naivebut I don't think it could hurt.

Happy birthday today to Anthony Kiedis from RHCP!

I enjoy posting the daily birthday quotes and I enjoy hunting until I find a quote that intrigues me in some way. I don't agree with all the quotes I post but the quote in most cases gave me pause to think. I try to go deeper than "you can do it". I guess I like intriguing over inspirational. I try to find a quote that will also give the reader something to think about. The first quote today had me thinking about the lie that is called transgender.

The tendency to conformity in our society is so strong that reasonably intelligent and well-meaning young people are willing to call white black. This is a matter of concern. It raises questions about our ways of education and about the values that guide our conduct.

Happy Birthday today to one of my all time favorite singersSarah McLachlan!

"I think a lot of contemplation happens in bathtubs. It does for me. Nothing like a hot bath to ease the tension and think about what's going to happen next."

Sarah McLachlan

"I was a pretty insecure kiddidn't have a lot of friendsand was picked on a lotand music gave me confidence."

Sarah McLachlan

"Music is very nebulousand you can conjure up a lot of moods with music. But lyrics - they're a lot more tangible. They're much more specific. And you want to say something meaningful and creative and artistic and that tells a story and that takes people someplace else."

Sarah McLachlan

"In a senseI'm always hearing music of some sortwhether it's people talking or surface noise or whateverbecause there is no privacy. So when I'm by myselfI just kind of like to be and reflectand I can't do that when I'm listening to music. Because it's someone else's reflectionsnot mine."

Sarah McLachlan

"There's beauty everywhere. There are amazing things happening everywhereyou just have to be able to open your eyes and witness it. Some daysthat's harder than others."

Sarah McLachlan

Happy 72nd Birthday to Rhea Perlman who played the little spitfire Carla Tortelli on Cheers!

Here's some great Carla Comebacks:

Norm: “I want something light and cold.”
Carla: “Sorryit’s Diane’s day off.”

Cliff: “Sometimes I’m ashamed God made me a man.”
Carla: “I don’t think God’s doing a whole lot of bragging about it either."

Frasier: “Lilith is carrying a dead rat in her purse. Why would she be carrying a dead rat in her purse?”
Carla: “Just a wild guess: a snack?”

“It was a magical moment. You know it was like I was transported back in time. I wasn’t a tired old woman with six kids. I was a fresh young teenager with two kids.”

Cliff: "It’s a little know fact that 42% of deaths in America are caused by accidents in the home."
Carla: "So were you."

Frasier: "I just came off a seven year marriage. It’s hard to think of replacing Lilith."
Carla: "Just go to the morgue and open any drawer."

Rebecca: "You guysI have my new wedding dress. And now all I need is something oldsomething borrowedand something blue."
Carla: "How ‘bout Norm’s liver?"

Lilith: "WellI’m off. I don’t know what the future holds. Whatever happensI only hope I can realize my full potential. To acquire things the old Lilith never had."
Carla: "Like a body temperature?"

Diane: "Oh no. The thing I feared most has happened."
Carla: "What? Your Living Bra died of boredom?"

Woody: 'Hi ma'am."
Carla: "Ma'am? What's that supposed to mean?"
Woody: "I believe it's a term of respect."
Carla: "No wonder it sounded so weird."

Lilith : "We've been examining our lives and discovered some frightening things."
Carla : "You finally found Diane walled up in Frasier's crawlspace?"

— Niles Crane (David Hyde Pierce)

Niles: You don't realize how desperate I am. Ever since our separationI've been paying women to touch me.

Frasier: OhNiles.
