    Drop Shadow on fonts

    Greetings,

It's been a while since I've been onso apologies for any ambiguous statements.

As the title indicatesI am having issues with the drop shadows on my fonts and I need to disable this feature. I do have some visual issues that make it very difficult for me to read such a tweak. ApparentlyI have accidentally hit a setting which I can not seem to locate.

I have tried the "Remove drop shadow" box in the performance section with no success. AdditionallyI attempted to access the key in Registry Editorbut that setting was already at "0". After each attempt (even though the registry editor was not touched) I rebooted and still the problem exists. With this problemI sometimes need to look at the screen at an angle a bit close-up; this tends to be rather annoying rather quickly. Needless to sayI should be a bit more careful and attentivebut that doesn't solve this problem. Henceany and all suggestions are appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Jake

Hijust wondering- in what context do you see fonts with drop shadows? Just for icon labels?

Could you also post a screenshot illustrating this?

Nearly all text I see doesn't have them. Thanks.

I have tried the "Remove drop shadow" box
Presumably the one related to icon labels.

    Tutorial:
Add or Remove Drop Shadows for Icon Labels on Desktop in Windows

** Under Option 12 - carefully note the text about restarting explorer etc to ensure the change is applied.

    re Drop Shadow

    Thanks for the quick response.

As I mentionedI rebooted after each change I made in the attempts to fix the problem.

As far as contextthe shadows appear entirely through the appsgiven the colors are not darkat which point they don't seem visible to me. ButI see the shadows in MS Accessthe desktop screensettingsFirefox and other apps. I can't say all because I have not tried them all; stillthe problem seems pervasive. Short of digging into several screenshotsI can say that the "shadow" appears as a white outline around a black text.

In searching these archivesI did see a post from a long time ago with a similar issue and the term used was "blur." Nowwhat the user meant by blur may or may not mean the same problem. That is something above my level of expertise (?). I hope this helps.

One last note: While I got to the settings mentioned online on various websitesthe layout and headings they used did not show in my settings panels. HoweverI did reachas I saidthe desired setting location and made the changes. That includes the tutorial that was suggested. I did all of thatincluding the registry.

A picture is worth... As you can see I was having to guess.

Please post a screenshot of what you see. For example- I don't know if you're using dark or light mode..

    You could try
Enable or Disable Font Smoothing in Windows
Turn On or Off ClearType in Windows 10

Example from my laptop- no 'shadows' or outlines..

While I got to the settings mentioned online on various websitesthe layout and headings they used did not show in my settings panels.
    Again.. screenshot please- which? Thanks.

Thanks. First thought is that might be related to that toolbar or some theme you're using with FF.

Can you show what you see that troubles you fromsaythe desktop or file explorer- not a 3rd party program?

And you mentioned a problem with Settings...

    Problems with focus assist
This might be relevant... just a guessbut it was a solution for 2 people with aspects of Settings not shown.

Also see the tutorials linked above that post.

That is anti-aliasingin Windows that comes under guise of ClearType.
In conjunction with your colour scheme in Firefox.

Either go through the ClearType tuning or switch it off.

Settings > Personalisation > Fonts > Adjust ClearType text.
    Also try:
Settings > System > About > Advanced system settings > Advanced Tab > Performance > settings > Visual Effects > Smooth edges of screen fontstry Off and On(tick) Apply OK.
Seems to be another place for ClearType Off/On switch.

Exit and Start applications again to take effect.

The colour scheme you have in your Firefox Bookmarks bar makes it more difficult for ClearType tuning which has a white background to text on the tuning screens.

"I tried the Clear Font settingbut that didn't workeither."
These things must have an effect unless Firefox has become Direfoxor you have not re-started applications etc.

The fact you're seeing it in a lot of placesis it possible you've set the monitors sharpness too high?

I can create a somewhat similar effect when I set mine to 100%.

Apologies for the delay in response (health issues).
Due to the unintended ambiguity on my partit was obvious that I didn't give anyone sufficient information to get the scope of the problem. Howeverrecently I did some toying with it and found some accidental resolutions. I'm not sure if one or all of them were neededbut I discovered the "Clear type" setting had to be readjusted (as mentioned by one of you) plus I had the transparency setting on. After I took care of those two itemsI also tweaked my colors and ultimately got the screen to look fairly close to what I like. I will settle for that.

Thanks to all for your input and efforts; your time is appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Jake

(NowI have developed another issue that came up that I need to post.)
