I just acquired another MEYLAN stopwatch at a small antique mall in FerdinandIN for five bucksjust seemed like to good of a deal to pass up. It was wound "tight" and did not want to tickbut I purchased it anyway as I thought to myself"Selfsince the American Olympic trials in swimming and in track are happeningwhy not get another "European timer" that was probably used back in the day to time many high school level sporting events." I was able to get the back off when I returned home only to find that the hairspring has been "buggered" in the past. Here are a couple of picsthe movement serial number is 4,118,152 and I am also showing the stamp on the inside of the case back. This case back at least snapped back reasonably easyunlike the timer I bought two years ago in which I still have not secured the case back. Anyone out there had luck correcting hair Springs like this? Thanks in AdvanceBrad MaistoKY Floral #44 Secretary

I have not encountered one like this but it looks like someone took out the balance and tried unsucessfully to to get teh spring back into the regulator. It is worth removing and balance cock and taking a look at the balance pivots. Someone this clumsy may have broken the pivots.

If they are OK it is not very hard to get it into running condition if you have done this before. OTW most intro watch repair books have a good discussion of how to untangle balance springs. These are soft springs and not too hard to manipulateunless very badly kinked.
