Method 1: Heat

Step 1

Using a hair dryer or other heat sourceheat the sticker slowlystarting in the middle and working your way out to the edges. Be careful not to heat the sticker too quicklyas you might accidentally burn or melt the adhesive onto the surface underneath.

Step 2

Using a plastic card such as a gift card or hotel keystart at one corner and gently push the sticker off the surface. Apply enough pressure to remove the corner while maintaining a firm grip on the card.

Step 3

Grab the corner of the sticker and pull it slowly towards the rest of the sticker. The lower the anglethe better. Pulling at a 90-degree angle increases the chance of ripping the sticker and leaving more residue on the surface.

Step 4

After removing most of the sticker with heat and the plastic scraperspray the area with window cleaner. Use wet wipes or a soft cloth to rub off the remaining adhesive. If you removed the sticker from car paintbuff the area with car wax.

Method 2: Rubbing Alcohol

Step 1

For this methodyou will need 90% or higher rubbing alcoholcotton ballsand a plastic card or razor blade (use the razor blade only on hard surfaces like glass).

Step 2

Dab the rubbing alcohol on the cotton balls until they are wet but not soaked. Rub the surface of the sticker until it begins to absorb the alcohol.

Step 3

Let the sticker sit for 5 to 10 minutes while the rubbing alcohol soaks in. If the surface dries outadd more rubbing alcohol and continue to let it soak. Once readysimply pull off the sticker!

Step 4

Using your plastic card or razor bladescrape off any remaining sticker and adhesive.

Transfer Decals

Transfer Decals are named for the way they are applied by transferring the sticker from its backing onto transfer tapeand then from the transfer tape onto the intended surface. These stickers are ideal for simple designssuch as basic text or silhouetted artwork. The process of creating a Transfer Decal involves the following steps:

1. Loading a roll of solid-color vinyl onto a plotter.
2. Cutting a path in the shape of the artwork into the vinyl.
3. Removing all the vinyl that is not part of the artwork.
4. Covering the remaining vinyl and its backing material with transfer tape.

Here's an example of a standard Transfer Decal: the trunk and leaves of the tree have been cut out of a sheet of green vinylleaving just the designwhich is covered with transfer tape. The white backer remains attached until the transfer tape is fully removed.

Printed Transfer Decals

Printed Transfer Decals are similar to standard Transfer Decals in terms of application and production. Howeverinstead of being cut from a roll of solid-colored vinylthey are cut from a roll of standard white vinyl that has a printed design on it. These stickers are great for designs that are as simple as Transfer Decals but require more than one color. A typical example could be a multi-color logo where the letters or shapes are not connected to each other.

Here's an example of a Printed Transfer Decal: it's similar to the previous design but now uses two colorsrequiring the design to be printed. As with the previous examplethe backing material is still presentas the transfer tape has not been fully removed.

Printed Stickers

Printed stickers allow for more complex designs compared to transfer or Printed Transfer Decals. The key difference is that the cut path goes around the outside of the sticker as a wholerather than around individual shapes or inside letters. If a Printed Transfer Decal is too complex to producea printed sticker on clear or white material might be a better option. Our printers can achieve a high level of detailand if printed on clear materialthe surface behind the sticker will still be visible'an advantage typically reserved for Transfer Decals.

At Carstickers.comwe measure and price all our stickers based on square inches. To calculate the square inches of a stickersimply multiply the width by the height. For examplea sticker that is 4'W x 4'H (4 inches wide and 4 inches high) and a sticker that is 2'W x 8'H (2 inches wide and 8 inches high) will cost the same because both are 16 square inches.

These measurements are based on the widest and tallest areas of the sticker's shapemeasured from left to right and top to bottom in a straight line.

Please note: The measurements are taken when the design is upright and in the same position as it will be applied. This ensures that the sticker you order will fit in the intended space. For examplewhile a diamond-shaped sticker could theoretically be rotated 45 degrees and measured as a squarea 3'x3' diamond and a 3'x3' square rotated 45 degrees are not the same size and will not fit in the same space.
