Pierre Rutare was the Father of Belgian singer and songwriterStromae/Paul van Haver (born 1985).


He was a Tutsi Rwandan and was born and raised in Rwanda for most of his life and was a wealthy businessman and architect. He eventually immigrated to Belgium around the 1970s-1980s and met a woman named Miranda van Haverwhom he would eventually marry. Miranda would eventually give birth on 12 March 1985 to a boy named Paul van Haverwhom would eventually become and is known to this day as the Belgian musician Stromae.


Pierre Rutare eventually went on a vacation to Rwanda c. 1993-1994 and often wrote to his family back in Belgium prior to the Rwandan Genocide in 1994. He presumably died after the Rwandan Genocide in 1994likely killed by the Hutu Rwandans. A young Paul didn't know much about his father nor was he aware of his death until 1997aged 12.


Paul van Haver would eventually become the beloved Belgian musician Stromae and would be known for a wide variety of songssuch as Alors on Danse (2009)Formidable (2014)Tous les memes (2013)and more. He wrote in 2013 a song called "Papaoutai/Papa ou tes ?" a song about the struggles of living without a fatherand was a song subtly dedicated to his father.
