Use Reminders on your iPhoneiPador iPod touch

With the Reminders app on iOS and iPadOSyou can create reminders with subtasks and attachmentsand set alerts based on time and location.

Before you begin

Set up iCloud to keep your reminders updated across all your devices.

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Tap [your name].

  3. Tap iCloudthen turn on Reminders.

Inside the Reminders appyou'll see all of your reminders on all of your Apple devices that are signed in to the same Apple Account. Learn how to update your iCloud reminders if needed.

Create a reminder

  1. Open the Reminders app.

  2. Tap + New Reminderthen type your reminder.

    In iOS 26open Reminders then tap + New Reminder to quickly create a new reminder.

You can also add reminders to your most important to-do lists from the Reminders widget on your Home Screen. And in iOS 26you can quickly create reminders from Control Center or the Action button on iPhone. Add the Reminders control to Control Center or assign Reminders to the Action Button on supported iPhones.

Create an urgent reminder

In iOS 26.2you can mark a reminder as urgent and Reminders will schedule an alarm when that reminder is due. Alarms activate even when your device is silenced or a Focus is on.

  1. In a Reminders listtap the reminder that you want to mark as urgent.

  2. Tap the Info button.

  3. Under Date & Timeturn Urgent on. If Date and Time aren’t already setthey default to the next hour.

Alarms for urgent reminders only activate on the device that Find My uses as your location. If you don't get the alarm for your urgent reminder on the right device:

  • Go to Find Mythen tap Me to find out which of your Apple devices is shared as your location. Learn how to share your location from a different device

  • Make sure you allow Reminders to access alarms in the Settings app. In Settingstap Apps. Then tap Remindersand turn on Alarms under Allow Reminders to Access.

To mark reminders as urgentyou need to set up iCloud Reminders.

Set a due date or time

Tap the Date and Time buttonNo alt supplied for Image to set a due date for the reminder. Choose from TodayTomorrowThis Weekendor tap Date & Time to set your own day and time.

By defaultreminders automatically use the time zone of your current location. In iOS 26you can select a specific time zone to display and create reminders. Go to Settings > Apps > Remindersand tap Time Zone.

If you set a due date for a reminder but don't assign a timethe notification appears by default at 9:00 AM. To change when all-day reminder notifications appearopen the Settings appthen tap Appsthen tap Reminders. Tap the time below All-Day Remindersthen choose a different time.

Add a location

Tap the Location buttonNo alt supplied for Image to assign a notification based on where you are. Select one of the options providedor tap Custom to add your own locationchoose whether you want to be notified when arriving or leavingand set the perimeter of your reminder area.

To receive location-based remindersmake sure that Location Services is turned on. Open the Settings appthen tap Privacy & Security > Location Services and turn on Location Services.

Add a tag

Tap the Tag buttonNo alt supplied for Image to add a tag. Tags let you quickly and automatically organize reminders based on keywords. Learn more about using tags to organize your reminders.

Flag a reminder

Tap the Flag buttonNo alt supplied for Image to mark a reminder as extra important and make it appear in the Flagged smart list on the Reminders app main screen.

Add an attachment

Tap the Photos buttonNo alt supplied for Image to add an attachment to the reminder. You can take a new photochoose an image from your photo libraryor scan a document.

Edit a reminder

Tap the Edit Details buttonNo alt supplied for Image to add even more details and customizations to your remindersuch as notesa URLand a priority. You can also modify the reminder's notification settings and change the list that it belongs to.

View and recover recently deleted reminders

  1. In the Reminders appscroll down and tap Recently Deleted.

  2. Tap the More buttonthen tap Select Reminders.

  3. Tap the reminders you want to recover.

  4. Tap Movethen tap the list where you want to add the recovered reminders.

  5. Tap Move.

You can view and recover recently deleted reminders for 30 days before they are permanently deleted.

Create a reminder in the Calendar app

In iOS 18 and lateryour scheduled reminders now appear in the Calendar app alongside your events. In the Calendar apptap Calendars at the bottom of the screen and select Scheduled Reminders.

You can also create Reminders from the Calendar app:

  1. In the Calendar apptap the + button at the top of the screen.

  2. Tap Reminder.

  3. Enter your Title and set the details of your reminder. Tap Date to choose a specific daytap Time to choose a specific timeor tap to view other options like Repeat or List.

  4. Tap the Done button to create your reminder and have it appear in your Calendar.

    In iOS 26you can create a reminder directly from the Calendar app.

Get a reminder while messaging someone

  1. Tap a reminderthen tap the Edit Details buttonNo alt supplied for Image.

  2. Turn on When Messaging.

    You can set reminders for specific actionslike a notification when you message a certain contact.
  3. Tap Choose Personthen tap a name in your contacts.

The next time you chat with this person in Messagesa Reminders notification appears.

Create subtasks

Every reminder that you create can have subtasks. For examplea reminder to pack for a trip can include a list of things that you don't want to forget.

You can create subtasks in a few different ways:

  • Tap and hold a reminderthen drag it onto another reminder. The reminder that you dragged becomes a subtask of the other.

  • Swipe right on a reminderthen tap Indent. The reminder becomes a subtask of the one above it. To undo thisswipe right again on the subtask and tap Outdent.

  • Tap a reminderthen tap the Edit Details buttonNo alt supplied for Image. Tap Subtasks > Add Reminderthen type your subtask. Repeat for as many subtasks as you'd like to create.

  • If you can't create subtasksmake sure you are using iCloud Reminders.

Complete a reminder

To mark a reminder as completedtap the empty circle next to it. To see your completed reminderstap the More buttonthen tap Show Completed.

When you tap the More button in a reminderyou see additional options like the ability to see completed tasks.

To delete a reminder without marking it as completedswipe left on itthen tap Delete.

If you get a reminder notification on your Lock Screenswipe left over the reminder. Tap Viewthen tap Mark as Completed.

Add a reminder with Siri

You can ask Siri to schedule a reminder for you on your iOS device or your Apple Watch.* Here are a few examples:

  • "Remind me to feed the dog every day at 7:30 a.m."

  • "Remind me when I get home to check the mail."

  • "Remind me when I leave here to stop by the grocery store."

  • "Remind me tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. to call Tara."

Add your home and work addresses to your card in Contacts to allow Siri to help you set location-based reminders. Open the Contacts appthen tap My Card. Tap Editadd your work or home addressthen tap Done.

Add a reminder from another app

To remind yourself to go back to another app—for exampleto revisit a website or a map location—add a link in your reminder to where you left off. Open the app that you want to come back toand look for the Share button. Then tap the Reminders icon.

And in iOS 26 when you view text or a page eithout the Reminders app openApple Intelligence can suggest reminders automatically.
