    Hi,

Thank you for your timely responsehope your doing well.

We made further research about this in the Community and were able to locate some cases related to this but comes with totally different resolves. Neverthelesskindly try this fixes.

    • Check OneDrive folder
      • There are cases that Windows update will "tidied up" the desktop by moving them into a one folder. Specially if you have OneDriveit will be moved into one folder and will be tagged Desktop(!).
    • Create a local user account - Use this link for complete guide Create a local user or administrator account in Windows (microsoft.com)
      1. Select Start > Settings >Accounts and then select Family & other users.(In some versions of Windows you'll see Other users.)
      2. Select Add someone else to this PC.
      3. Select I don't have this person's sign-in informationand on the next pageselect Add a user without a Microsoft account.
      4. Enter a user namepasswordor password hint—or choose security questions—and then select Next.

Kindly check this Thread from one of our Volunteer Moderator DaveM121"). This will give you some additional troubleshooting to fix the problem. Here's the link All desktop icons disappeared - Microsoft Community

    We hope this help!

    Hi Leonardo

    Thanks for your valued help.

I have tried both suggestions but still no luck.

Someone suggested I go to users/Name/Appdata/local/microsoft/Windows/Explorer and find the "iconcache" files and delete them all but very reluctant to do so.What are your thoughts on this. Will I be able to reset all the shortcuts or will it block me.?

    Hi BarryLomas,

Thank you for posting your concern here in Microsoft Community. We understand you need help fixing this missing desktop icons. Let's go over with this together.

We would like to know some additional information to make sure we fully understand the issuesuch as:

    • What happen before this problem occur?
    • Are you using the device when this happen or after you reboot the device?
    • Is there any Windows update happen before this happen?

If there are no icons on your desktopbut all other desktop components (such as Taskbar) are presentyou might have accidentally turned off the "Show desktop options" feature. If this is the caseyou can retrieve your icons in just a few mouse clicks.

Simply right-click on the desktop and select *"View".*Then click the "Show desktop icons". If this option is enabledyou should see the check icon next to it.

See if this returns the desktop icons. Some users claim that enabling the "Auto arrange icons" option solved the problemso we suggest you try this.

    • Run System File Checker
    • If the method mentioned above did not solve the problemthere might be corrupted system files in the Windows operating system - these will need to be repaired using System File Checker.

System File Checker (SFC) is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files.

To run itopen Command Prompt. To open it with an empty Desktopuse the Ctrl + Shift + Esc keyboard shortcut to open Task Manager. In Task Managerclick "File" and select *"*Run new task". In "Create new task" Open boxtype "cmd" and mark the "Create this task with administrative privileges." checkbox to start elevated Command Prompt.

    • Nowtype the "sfc /scannow" command and press Enter. This will start the System File Checker. When the scan has finishedrestart the computer and see if this solves the missing desktop issue.

We hope this help! We look forward for you response.
