台海关系紧张引发外媒普遍关注，在报道中我们时不时可以看到关于“中国大陆”这样的表述：

In mainland Chinaexperts repeatedly warn the U.S. that “Washington is provoking Beijing to fire the first shot.”（Japan Times)

长期看外媒新闻的小伙伴要注意了，关于“中国大陆”的英文说法，mainland China在中国官方文件和报道中是不被允许的。这是为什么呢？

当用mainland作定语修饰China的时候，China是中心词，意即“大陆中国”，暗含一层意思—— 还有其他中国，这与我方立场当然不符。所以为了不落入西方话语的陷阱，我们在国际传播中不使用mainland China的说法。我国主流媒体在英文报道中对“中国大陆”的操作规范是Chinese mainland，China's mainland，the mainland of China。而当同时出现“大陆”和“台湾”时，则相应地使用China's mainland （Chinese mainland） and Taiwan region，或the mainland and Taiwan of China，或the mainland and Taiwan。

关于涉台表述，还有几处要特别提醒的：在此前的推送中我们提过，“台湾问题”用Taiwan question，不用Taiwan issue；在表述两岸关系时，不能使用Beijing and Taipei；在表述“统一”概念时，不使用unification而使用reunification，因后者表示两岸本来就是统一的，现在只不过是恢复当初的统一状态而已。

最后，外媒在提到台湾时，常常会说中国认为台湾是它的一个renegade/rogue/breakaway province。这几个词的意思可以掌握一下。renegade——叛逆者；rogue——离群的；breakaway——分裂出来的。
