What about 2027?

Recommended Posts

Ford is spot on planning needs to start now I know he's marmite but I personally think if he was made the big chief the sport would be in a way better place than it is now.

Harry and co need to come up with something when did they come on board Nov 2025 ? from memory and all we have had so far  is Linda L in what looked like a travel lodge room filming herself with a paper bag pulling out names for the ko cup which hasn't resulted in the ten's of thousands of lost fans heading back and Linda probably copped at least a grand for ten minutes work.

I'm leaning towards keeping two leagues but unless a 500k plus sponsor is foundwe know the current top league format isn't financially feasible personally think an eight team top league would need to be current championship standardsecond division teams of seven a couple of old hands per team Rambo LamboBen Barker etc3-4 English youngsters (under 24) and allow a couple of possible foreign rough diamonds in also ideally Aussie and USA who having no formal home league structure might stick around a while longer than the Danes and Swedes.

If a second division team could be moulded to the type of 1-7 Lynn juniors had last year with say a couple of decent under 24 foreign youngsters per team might keep interest at current levels.

I really hope its not all kicked until Nov plus this year with the old fingers crossed format that something might turn up.

Interesting post. Are there any council elections due in Rugby in the near future that may have an effect on a CPO being considered?

As I said in my response to IainBonce agreed the Local Plan can't just be changed overnight by new Councillors. The 'decisions' for the plan and the CPO will be recorded and the Council staff will persue the agreed action. As far as I am awaretalks have already taken place between the Council and the consortiumand as long as the Local Plan passes the consultation process it will definitely be happening. The difficulties will potentially come from Brandon Esatatesnot from the Council.

For 2027 still can't see a 1 league structure being viable due to lack of riders and teams wanting different race nites when a lot of riders maybe elsewhere. So a 2 league structurebut the top league should have 2 UK U24 riders at reserve (presuming 7 rider teams) one to be classed at rising star.

In the 2nd league again both reserves to be U24 one to be a 2 point rider from the NDL

Sort rules and points limit before this season ends and agree in early Novemberteams could be announced as usualhave fixtures for both leagues out by mid January.

Surely this is simple enough to happen  !!!

First priority has to be the collective mindset of club owners and promoters.

Unless they're ALL able to move beyond the silo mentality which has been the prevailing influencethen there isnt any point in talking about things like doubling-up and leagues structure.

This includeswhether there are onetwo or three leaguesto adopt a collective purpose and co-operation. Without thatthere seems little point in carrying on.

The current management and decision making arrangements need to be urgently consigned to the rubbish binenabled by the establishment of a small board of directors with no personal club interests. This needs to be pushed forward collectively by those owners and promoters who are forward thinkingwith the first step being to bin off the progress-blockers including if necessary creating a new company which will render the current BSP Ltd obsolete.

All of this is nothing new. But this time it has to actually happen. Then they can sort out issues like leaguesdoubling uprulesformats.

That's very interestingso the Brandon site will appear in the New Local plan as a site where a CPO will be attempted?

A compulsory purchase order (CPO) is not generally referred to as merely "attempted" in a legal sensebut rather it goes through a four stage process where it is made, objected to, confirmedand then executed. It is considered a last resortand the acquiring authority must prove they have attempted to acquire the land by negotiation beforehand.
Only Brandon Estates are likely to make an objection which given the history of rejected planning and appeal only the price offered could be grounds for such an objection.
The valuation is determined by a chartered surveyorusually appointed by the acquiring authority based on the "market value" of the land as if it were sold by a willing seller on the open marketexcluding any future changes in value caused by the intended future use.

2027 ! They’ve only just got 2026 coming up to the tapes ……..forward planning never a feature of British Speedwayand with this current lot clearly happy to flog the 3 league structure to death ( even losing the Ippo promoter this season) what makes anyone think 2027 will be any different to 2026?
Of the starting 6 in 2026it will be interesting to see how Northampton fare…… of the other quintet let’s see how their businesses run with no TV money and riders new pay deals. Doubling up and down should keep most of them happy.

The Poles will have pulled up the drawbridge in 2027 so even fewer riders will be tempted to stay in the UK scene unless the6 cannot get a polish spot ( or don’t get paid in 2026)

We might see some 100th anniversary racing in 2028 ……😂🤣

Could the BSPL look at putting speedway into the valley greyhound stadium in wales now that wales have banned greyhound racing.

Not certain yet  that this decision will stand  See the bbc article below

Greyhound racing is to be banned in Walesafter Senedd members voted to outlaw the practice.

The move was backed by animal welfare groupswho said that thousands of dogs in the UK have died in recent years due to racing in the "inherently dangerous" sport.

But the legislation faces a legal challenge and accusations ministers did not consult on it properly.

Before the vote it emerged civil servants had told the Welsh government not enough evidence had been gathered to justify a ban. Ministers said they could not comment during "ongoing litigation".

It's about 200 yards from a hospital - handy but I can't see them getting planning for it. Spoke to my old man about it many times,

There was a track up by him further up the valley in the middle of no where and even that wouldn't have got permission.

You would need more riders rather than more money

That’s always going to be the problem. There are not enough suitable standard riders to fill all team spaces with doubling up ditched.

it would need to be 5 or 6 man teams to get anywhere near close enough for a suitable standard of rider to fill all teams.

It's going to take some outside of the box thinking
