having a reef

Hi everyone!

I have to translate part of a play and I have problems with the following sentence: 'been having a few crafty reefs in laybyhave you?'. It's a dialogue between two men. One of them is a private chauffeur and the other asks him if he's been banging away at (which I've translated as 'montárselo') his lady customers. He's asking about sexual matters but I don't know how vulgar or slang it is.

This is my try:

'Been having a few crafty reefs in laybyhave you?'--> Has estado tonteando / jugueteando en las áreas de descanso¿ehgranuja / bribón?

As I saidI don't know if the word is too vulgar or notsooooo could you give me some suggestion?

I have never heard of 'reef' with a sexual connotation. I think the most likely thing is referring to a 'joint' (dope/marijuana)although we'd more usually say 'reefer' than 'reef'. But he could be asking if he's been smoking dope secretly in lay-bys?

Thanks for your replyChez. I knew that reef could also refer to joints but I think it doesn't make much sense in this text. The chauffeur is single and the other man wonders why he hasn't got married yet and starts talking about banging away at his lady customers and the back seat of the car... For that reason I thought reef could have a sexual connotation and here it didn't have anything to do with joints. I'm lost in translation! hehe. Thank you anyway for your help!
