Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command have launched a manhunt for suspected kidnappers following the abduction of two women during an early morning attack in the Aco Mbawpe communityon the outskirts of Abuja.
Security expertZagazola Makamamade this known on Wednesday in a post on X.
He stated that the incident occurred around 2:10 a.m. on Tuesday when gunmen reportedly invaded a residential area.
Makama further disclosed that sources within the command said the Divisional Police Officer of the Iddo Division received a distress callprompting the immediate deployment of patrol teams to the scene.
While quoting police sourceshe wrote“Upon receiving the reportour patrol teams were swiftly deployed to the scene. Preliminary investigation revealed that the residence of one Fati Omale was invaded by the assailantsand shealong with another woman identified as Zainab Ibrahimis believed to have been abducted to an unknown destination.
“In response to the incidentcombined teams of police operatives from Iddo Divisionthe Anti-Kidnapping Unitas well as local vigilantes and hunters have commenced a massive search and rescue operation.”
The joint teams werehoweversaid to be combing the surrounding bushes and hills around the Aco Mbawpe areaa semi-rural settlement on the outskirts of the Federal Capital Territoryin a bid to locate the abductors’ hideout and ensure the safe return of the victims.
PUNCH Metro reported in May that panic gripped residents of Gbazango Extension Relocation 2along Arab Road in the Kubwa area of the Federal Capital Territoryfollowing a kidnapping incident.
Residents told our correspondent that gunmen stormed the community around 1am and abducted a male resident.
During the attackone person was shot and is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
