Scratch is where I learned that my ideas matter. Where I could turn a few thoughts into anything I can imagine to be shared ... I dream that Scratch will continue to empower kids like me to find their voicetheir passionand themselves just like I did.

They can start with pre-drawn charactersbackdropssoundsand graphics from our extensive asset libraryupload from their own devicesor draw their own masterpieces. Scratch is built on free expressionexperimentationand play – whether children are excited about visualizing math equations or making their doodles dance and singScratch can help them make their ideas a reality.

Our Community

Millions of kids around the world have created over a billion Scratch projects to express their creativity and share their ideas with the world. Scratchers find encouragement and inspiration from friends in our livelykid-friendly communitywhile an expert team of moderators ensures that conversations and projects are safekindand welcoming.

Research-Backed & Kid-Centered

Scratch was developed at the MIT Media Lab in 2007 by a team of educational experts and researchers led by Professor Mitchel Resnick. In 2019Scratch was transferred from MIT to the Scratch Foundation: an independent nonprofit dedicated to developing and maintaining the Scratch platform and community. While technology has changed in the last 20 yearsScratch’s values have not: we’re committed to supporting children’s learningself-expressionand developmentand we continue to design with and for our community of young people.
