Hello Dimers!

.

Seasons greetings and hope you all are doing well! 😄

I am considering buying health insurance for myself (24 yrs no PED).

Buying it now would be a wise option as per my understandingsince my age is low so no PED so easy to get one and changes of any non disclosure is less.

I have thoroughly researched everything and the entire thing is a mess -

  • HDFC Ergo is good but extremely  costly (around 11K for me) which exceeds my budget
  • ICICI Elevate looks good on paper with many advantages like unlimited restorationNCB however CSR isn't that impressive
  • Niva Bupa also looks good on paper
  • Aditya Birla is not that old or having that track record
  • Care having too many complaints
  • Avoiding Acko and Digit and other new age insurers absolutely

.

Saw some plans from New India Assurance (Yuva Bharat Health Insurance). Premium is affordableapparently having good CSR (as per some recent newspaper article). A few restrictions like submit on cataract (not important for me)a few restrictions on modern treatments but overall looks good. Room is not bad either (single PVT AC Room).

Anyone having any experience with PSU Health Insurance or the others above?

Many recommended Ditto and Beshak however in my opinion they are biased and recommend HDFC or Care Supreme
(they give good explanations of all terms of insurance for knowledge but when it comes to recommending the insurer they are biased)

Kindly share your views.

Also this is a recent newspaper report. Even though it does not have any bifurcation of retail and corporate claims still -

.

The big advantage with 4 PSU health insurance companies is they have a separate rate structure with hospital called GIPSA (not sure of spelling). E.g. my brother underwent hernia surgerythe cost give was 1Lwhen we told about our policy with PSUit was done in 87KSame Doctorsame hospital same room type. These 4 companies with their sheer size have negotiated far better rates with the hospitals. So my 5L lasts longer compared to same 5L policy with non PSU health insurer.

Folks had/have NIA policies for yearseven decade plus.
Not that they had as many hospitalisationbut on the few occasions which father claimed.. the TPA and processes were responsive.
(He has a habit of not disclosing to the hospital that he has a policy. He prefers to pay and later claimwith the assumption/logic that hospitals randomly put more consumablescharges if they realise that the customer Haa less out of pocket expenses.)

So NIA would be above averagein my view.

I took it personally and even sulked.. when Max and Bupa broke up the JV.

have no direct experience with Niva Bupabut Bupa.. in general.. are very efficient and also ethical.

Others in my circle have taken Niva Bupa products.

have personally experienced Bupa's excellent service in even slightly remote areas.. in Africa though.
Hence the part where I tipped the scales for Niva too.

Yesstar used to be one of the best however after Covid it is now one of the worst. You are lucky to get your claims approved!

I have Care Insurance via Ditto for past 3 years. I know that over the past yearCare has suffered a hit to its reputation but since Ditto is my TPAI'll take their assistance if any claim arises. I went for Care because the other recommendation (ERGO) was too pricy. I might consider porting after 2 years if they suffer a further hit to their reputation.

What is your cover from care?

Have you opted for any riders?

Have you also choosen any topup or super topup?

Please shed some light on your experience.

I have taken term from icici via dittoand the experience was goodbut this health insurance has become a lot tricky as theyre aggresisbely promoting carewhere as it is having loads of negativity.

Stay away from HDFC Ergo. When I purchased a policy in 2018 for ₹11,000they assured me the premium would not increase for five years. Howeverwhen I renewed it in 2020the premium had jumped to around ₹21,000. Always insist on getting such assurances in writing. To my knowledgeHDFC Ergo does not provide written guarantees on premium stability and may discontinue the policy at any time. Be cautious and thoroughly verify terms before buying.

I don't think any insurance provider would give you in writing that they won't increase the premium

Niva Bupa has excellent plans!
Opt for Reassure 2.0 with Platinum/Titanium versions.

There will be no yearly premium hike until a claim is made. It will be hiked in case of a claim or age slab change!
You can add a Safeguard rider for better coverage & consumables!

But Nivas premium is a few hundred rupees lesser than HDFC Ergo who is the leader.

Alsothere are quite a few complaints about Niva's service

Go With
PSU
TATA AIG - Costly
ICICI Lombard - HDFC Ergo - Almost same on many terms -  costly
Avoid

Care Health - high complaints - poor customer care - poor Incurred Claim Ratio
Star Health  - high complaints - poor customer care - poor Incurred Claim Ratio

I have personally shifted from Care to Hdfc Ergo - if possible buy 3 years plan

Bro I will give a ground reality to you best on my experience. Always remember when it comes to giving moneyeveryone is hesitant so are the insurance companies. No insurance company is best. But taking insurance is a must. I won't comment on which one is better but what I would suggest gathering a hefty emergency medical fund for unforeseen situations. Remember the insurance company will try their every bit to deny the claim by any meansany loopholespolicy wordingshidden clauses etc that we normal people sometimes don't understand or not be conveyed to us. Best of luck 🤞

I have Oriental Insurance policy and so far very good overall experience!

If your claim is genuine with proper documentsyou will get the claim.

Contrary to some comment, Definitely take a health insurance at the earliest while you don't have any PED.

That is my view as well. Which plan do you have?

Alsoit will be hard for insurer to reject claims in my view if we are taking the policy young since chances of hiding anything is minimal

Manipal cigna or Care is best for claims. As SEBI RIA i recommend this to most of my clients. Touchwood Never faced any problems in last 7 yrs with claims.

Maybe they have not incorporated AI algorithms to deny claims in India yet.

In the USit seems they are one of the worst (United Health is even worse) when it comes to denying claims

Sharing experience

With niva bupa (topup policy) from 3 yrs

Renewed again for 3 yrs last month. And I downloaded the app for first time just to try.

There was option of doctor consultation (general physician is free unlimited  not specialists which is chargeable)

My wife was not feeling well and continously coughing. I booked consultation at night 1.30 am and thought doctor may call in morning

What surprisingly the doctor called in 10 mins at night. Gave normal recommendation. But experience was pleasant.

Make my confidence boosted for niva bupa if any claim requires in future.

I have claimed oriental. I had a impression that only 80% amount is given back. To my surprise they have approved 95% of claimed amount.

This was a corporate cover. Do not have this now. Now we have Onsurity from kotakthe worse insurer in market with very bad reputation.

Bro given your age I would suggest going with elevate as it has one rider where sum insured increases by 100% every year irrespective of claim so by the time you claim first your policy would be 10x and by the time you reach 50 it would be 25x
