Delhi HC directs platforms to remove deepfake content targeting Bhuvan Bamgrants interim relief
In a strong move to address the rising misuse of digital identitiesthe Delhi High Court has granted interim relief to Bhuvan Bamdirecting that deepfake content and any unauthorised use of his identity be immediately restricted across online platforms.
The order was made on 28 April 2026 by Justice Jyoti Singh. In this regardthere was an increasing amount of misinformation in the form of misleading informationsuch as false advertisement and promotion of Telegram channels and betting through the use of Bam’s picturevoiceand characters used in BB Ki Vines.
Considering the implicationsBam approached the Court for taking action against the circulation of this manipulated contentwhich has nothing to do with him and can lead to the deception of the public.
It was held by the court that there is prima facie evidence available and the continued circulation of such content can lead to irreparable lossnot only for Bambut also for the general public. As suchan ex parte ad interim order was passed to restrain unknown individuals from creating and circulating such content.
As part of the directionscompanies including Google LLCMeta Platforms Inc.Flipkartand Spotify India have been ordered to remove identified URLs within 36 hours.
While concerns around parody and fair use were raisedthe Court clarified that those issues will be examined at a later stageemphasising that the immediate focus is to prevent misuse and safeguard public interest.
