The MOTION study for knee osteoarthritis

Genesis Research Services is exploring whether an investigational biologic drug can improve pain symptoms and limitations of joint function caused by knee osteoarthritis.

This study is to test an investigational medication that could be used to treat painful knee OA. This investigational biologic medication is an intra‑articular (IA) injection (meaning- its injected inside the knee joint)and it may treat your OA painimprove your knee joint functionand potentially delay the progression of your disease.

An “investigational medication,” also called an experimental drugis a substance being studied in clinical trials to assess its safetyeffectivenessand appropriate dosage for treating a specific disease or medical conditionlike OA.

You may be able to take part if you:

  • Aged 40-80 years old

  • Have experienced moderate to severe pain from osteoarthritis in only one of their knees for 6 months or longer

Medicinal cannabis for rheumatoid arthritis study.

Researchers from Western Sydney University and the University of Sydney are looking for people with rheumatoid arthritis to take part in a clinical trial on topical cannabidiol (CBD or a type of medicinal cannabis).

Early studies suggest medicinal cannabis may have beneficial effects on pain and function in arthritishowever more research is needed. Topical CBD is applied directly to the skin over painful joints and has several advantages including few side effects. CBD does not contain any of the compounds in cannabis that can cause people to feel “high”therefore using this medication will not affect mental state.

If you have rheumatoid arthritis and have been on stable doses of medication for arthritisthen this study may be suitable for you.

Examining validating and invalidating adults with chronic pain

The University of Sydney is exploring experiences of invalidating healthcarethat iswhere someone’s pain is delegitimisednot taken seriouslyor dismissed by a healthcare professional (e.g.“your pain is in your head”) and further understanding in how we can increase validating healthcare for people with chronic pain.
