Mobile and online banking setup

You can retrieve your username and reset your password within our digital banking.   

To find your username using online banking

  1. Choose Forgot username or password. 
  2. Select I don't know my username from under Username/Personal ID.  
  3. Choose Phone or Email to verify your account and select Continue. 
  4. Enter your phone number or email address and choose Continue.
  5. Verify the last 4 digits of your Social Security number and select Continue.
  6. We will send you a six-digit verification code.
  7. Enter the code and choose Continue to obtain your username. 
  8. Select Log in to complete loginor select Reset password, to choose a new password.  
  9. If you selected Reset Password, you will now be prompted to select a new password. No further verification is needed. 

To reset your password using online banking 

  1. Select Forgot username or password. 
  2. Type in your username and select Continue.  
  3. Provide the last 4 digits of your Social Security number and any other requested information. 
  4. Choose your verification method.
  5. Once you’re verifiedyou'll be prompted to select a new password. 

To find your username and/or reset your password using the U.S. Bank Mobile App  

  1. Select Get login help from the login page. 
  2. Enter your phone number and the last four digits of your Social Security number then select Continue. 
  3. We will send a one-time passcode to the number provided.
  4. Enter the code and choose Continue to obtain your username. 
  5. Select Log in to complete loginor select Reset password, to choose a new password.  
  6. If you selected Reset Password, you will now be prompted to select a new password. No further verification is needed. 
  7. You can then choose to set up face or fingerprint login if your device qualifies. Otherwise select Log in to return to the login page.

More information

  • If you don't have a Social Security number or Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN)call us to speak with an agent. The agent will give you a temporary password.
  • If you have changed your phone number within the last three daysyou will need to call 877-202-0043 for help. We accept relay calls. 

You can manage your alerts anytime using digital banking. Please noteif you have multiple accountsyou'll need to repeat these steps for each one.   

To add or remove account alerts using online banking

  1. From your dashboardselect Profile & settingsthen choose Alerts & notifications. 
  2. Select Account activity from the Notifications menu on the left.  
  3. If you have more than one accountchoose the one you'd like to manage using the drop-down menu at the top of the screen. 
  4. Select Quick setup or All settings and choose the alert you'd like to manage. 
  5. Use the toggle buttons to turn alerts on or off.   

To add or remove account alerts using the U.S. Bank Mobile App

  1. Open the main menu and choose Notificationsthen select Account activity. 
  2. If you have more than one accountchoose the one you'd like to manage using the drop-down menu at the top of the screen. 
  3. Select the chevron to the right of the alert name. 
  4. Use the toggle buttons to turn the alert on or off. 

More information

You can choose a combination of up to three email or mobile phone numbers to receive alerts at. Some alerts also require an email address.

If you reply STOP to a text alertyou may receive the following text message:

The following types of accounts can only manage alerts using online banking and can’t be managed using the U.S. Bank Mobile App 

  • U.S. Bancorp Investments account
  • TrustAgencyCustodyor IRA accounts with Ascent Private Capital Management
  • U.S. Bank Private Wealth Management or U. S. Bank Wealth Management  

Please note that they also need to have the same alert destinations if you’ve gone paperless.

You can update your address at any time in your digital banking.

To change your phone number or email address in your digital banking you need to be a customer for at least 30 days.

If you need to update your phone number or email address within your first 30 days with usgive us a call at 800-USBANKS (872-2657). We accept relay calls.

To change your information using digital banking

Note: You’ll need your mobile device available to receive a one-time passcode as part of our authentication process.

  1. Select Profile & settingsthen choose Personal details. Please notemobile app users need to open the main menu firstthen select Profile & settings.
  2. Follow the steps belowbased on what needs to be changed.

Phone number
  1. Select Edit beside the phone number you’d like to change. You have the option to select Add phone number to add a new one.
  2. Enter your new mobile number and select Save.
  3. If you want to receive securitybranch & banking service alerts (including one-time passcodes) mark the check boxes in the desired category.
  4. If you don’t want to receive text alerts or do not want to be reached by automated methodsunmark the applicable check boxes. This means you don’t want us to use automated methods to reach you. We will attempt to notify you another way. Unmarking these checkboxes may impact your ability to receive alerts and one-time passcodes.
  • You can update your primary number but it can’t be removed entirely.
  • Additional numbers such as your home phonework phone or other phone number listed can be changed and/or removed.
  • If you don't have access to your former numberor need to remove an alternate phone numbergive us a call at 800-USBANKS (872-2657). We accept relay calls.
  • International phone numbers aren't accepted using digital banking. 

Email address
  1. Select Edit beside the email address you’d like to change.
  2. Enter your new email address and select Save.
  3. Online banking users: If you don’t want to receive marketing communicationsunmark the applicable check box. 

Mobile app users: If you don’t want to receive marketing communicationsscroll down and mark the check box to unsubscribe. 
  •  Email addresses need to be in the following format: [email protected]. Other accepted components includebut aren't limited to: ".org"".net"".gov".

Home or mailing address
  1. Select Edit next to the address you’d like to change.
  2. Enter your new address and select Save.
  3. Customize your individual account addresses if you want account specific items to go somewhere else (statementsrefund checksetc.).
  • Military and international addresses need to be managed by calling us.
  • For military addresses call 800-934-9555 | Collect at 513-277-5899
  • For all other international addresses call 800-USBANKS (872-2657) | Collect at 503-401-9991.
  • We accept relay calls.
  • Digital banking only accepts domestic addresses.

The U.S. Bank Smart AssistantTM is a conversational and interactive virtual assistant available in the U.S. Bank Mobile app and online banking. Smart Assistant can handle a range of requestslike answering simple questions or presenting interactive charts and graphics. 

To use Smart Assistant 

  • In the U.S. Bank Mobile Appselect the blue microphone at the top of the screen. 
  • In online bankingselect the search field at the top of the page. 

 To get startedopen Smart Assistant and state or type a command or tell it what to do. Examples of commands includebut aren't limited to:

  • Account Number: "What is my account and routing number?"
  • Credit Score: "What's my credit score?"
  • Pay bills: "Pay the statement balance on my credit card bill."
  • Transfer money: "Transfer $100 from my checking account to my savings."
  • Dispute: "Dispute a transaction."
  • APR: "What's the APR on my credit card?" (mobile only)

Zelle®

Zelle® is an easy and safe way to move money digitallywithout the need to provide your bank account information. Insteada person's email address or mobile phone number is used to send and receive money.1 To send or receive money with Zelle®both parties must have an eligible checking or savings account.

  • It's easy to identify a person is enrolled with Zelle®; they'll have a purple "Z" by their name when you send money.
  • Zelle® transactions carry the same security assurances as all of your other banking activities.

Zelle® is a great way to send and receive money digitally. Enrolling only takes a few moments.  

To enroll for Zelle® in digital banking 

  1. Select Transfer & paythen Send & request money with Zelle®.
  2. Choose Enroll for online banking or Get started for the U.S. Bank Mobile App.
  3. Select a mobile number or email address for people to send you moneythen select Continue.
  4. Choose the checking account that funds will be sent tothen select Continue. 
  5. A confirmation will displayselect Done to finish your enrollment.

  • Zelle® deactivates after 18 months of inactivity. You will need to re-enroll.

To send money with Zelle® using online banking

  1. Select Transfer & paythen Send & request money with Zelle®.
  2. Choose your recipientthen select their email address or mobile number or Zelle® tag for business accounts. You can add a new recipient during this step if they're not on your list.2
  3. Enter the Amount, Memo (optional), FrequencySend dateand select the From account. 
    • Send date: The date the funds are sent but may not be the date the funds are depositeddepending on the processing time.
    • Frequency: One timeMonthlyWeeklyEvery 2 Weeksand Yearly are available options.  
    • Duration options available: When I cancelWhen I've sent a number of paymentsand When I've sent a certain amount
  4. Select Review to continue to the Review & send page.
  5. If everything is correct, select Send or select Schedule if you chose a future or recurring option.
To send money with Zelle® using the U.S. Bank Mobile App
  1. From your dashboardselect Transfer & paythen choose Send & request money with Zelle®.
  2. Choose your recipientthen select their email address or mobile number or Zelle® tag for business accounts. You can add a new recipient during this step if they're not on your list.2
  3. Enter the Amountadd a Memo (optional)the Pay from accountthe Send on dateand choose Repeat this payment if you'd like it to be recurring.

  4. Select Review and then Send on the next screenif everything is correct.

If you'd like to send an eCard to your recipientjust select Choose an eCard from the confirmation page.    
 
Messages/memos aren't required but are recommended. A personal note gives your contacts the confidence they're receiving funds from someone they know. It's also an opportunity for you to communicate the purpose of the transaction. 
 
Recipients need to register their mobile number or email address with Zelle®. If the mobile number or email address isn't registered within 14 calendar daysthe payment expiresand funds are returned to your account. 

  • Non-registered recipients: We'll send the recipient a notification the funds were sent. The notice includes instructions on how the recipient registers with their financial institutionor directly with Zelle®to claim the money. The notification is sent as a text if you sent the payment to their mobile number or as an email if you sent the payment to their email address. 
  • Registered recipients: They don't need to take any further action as long as their financial institution supports automatic deposit. If their financial institution doesn't support itthey'll need to manually accept the payment. 

1Payment requests to persons not already enrolled with Zelle® must be sent to an email address. In order to send payment requests or split payment requests to a United States mobile numberthe mobile number must already be enrolled with Zelle®.

Splitting a bill with multiple people is easier than ever.1 It's a great way to share costs for things like group luncheshotel staysor fares. And you can split the bill with up to 10 people. All you need is: 

  • To be enrolled with Zelle®. 
  • Have a U.S. Bank checking or savings account. 
  • Have the Zelle® registered phone number or email address of each person.

To split a bill using Zelle® in digital banking

  1. Select Transfer & paythen Send & request money with Zelle®. 
  2. Choose Split a bill. 
  3. Select the people you'd like to split the bill withthen select Continue/Next.
  4. Complete the "Split a bill" form and select Review.
    • Enter the total amount to split. This should include your portion of the bill. Don't worryit won't be taken from your account. It's only used to calculate the other people's portion.
    • Add a memo (optional).
    • Allocate the amount you'd like request from each person.
      • To startamounts are automatically calculated to split the total evenly between you and the others.
      • You can adjust those figures by selecting the dollar amount next to the person's name and enter a new amount.
      • Then the system will automatically adjust the rest of the figures to meet the total amount requested.  
    • Choose the U.S. Bank account you want the requested funds to go to. 
  5. If everything is correct on the final review pageselect Request.

To addedit or remove a Zelle® recipient using digital banking

To get startedselect Transfer & paythen Send & request money with Zelle®. You'll select Manage recipients and then follow the applicable steps below.

To add a recipient

  1. Select Add new recipient *(to add a business recipient slide the toggle switch).
  2. Enter their first and last namethen enter their email or mobile number. 
  3. Select Add recipient. 

To change a recipient's information

  1. Select the recipient you'd like to updatethen choose Edit recipient.
  2. Enter the recipient's new information.
  3. Select Save.

To remove a recipient

  1. Select the recipient you'd like to delete.
  2. Choose Editthen select Delete recipient. 
  3. Online banking: Select Yesdelete. 
  4. U.S. Bank Mobile App: Select OK.

More information

Please noteif one of your recipients changed their banking informationyou won't be able to edit it. They need to access their Zelle® profile to get it updated. Once they've updated itfunds will automatically be sent to their designated bank account. 

Bill pay

U.S. Bank bill pay is a digital service that allows you to make payments to any individual or business within the United States. Using our bill pay serviceyou can eliminate time and money spent on paper checksstamps and trips to the mailbox. Adding your billers to your bill pay gives you the convenience to pay all your bills in one place. We make it quick and easy to add a biller.

How to add a biller to bill pay using digital banking

  1. Select Transfer & paythen select Pay bills. 
  2. Choose Add bill towards the top. 
  3. Select if you’d like to search for the biller or manually add the biller. 
  4. To search for a billerbegin by typing in their name in the search field. 
    • Choose the biller’s name that matches your monthly statement. Enter your biller’s informationthen select Continue to make your first payment. 
  5. To manually enter your billerselect Add manually. 
    • Choose if the biller is a company or a person.
    • Enter your biller’s information from your statement. The address will prefill as you type. If you don’t see the address or need to enter a PO Boxmanually enter the address and continue to the next field.
    • Select Continue to make your first payment.

Safe Debit Accounts aren't eligible for recurring payments or expedited delivery. Only billers listed in our system that accept electronic payments can be paid. To learn moresee also: How do I know if my bill payment will be electronic or paper?

To pay a bill using online banking

  1. Select Transfer & paythen choose Pay bills. 
  2. Locate the bill to payenter an amountchoose the date to pay and select the account to pay from. 
  3. Optional: Repeat steps 2 through 4 to pay additional bills. A total amount for the bills selected will display. 
  4. When readyselect Review & pay to complete the payment(s).

To pay a bill using the U.S. Bank Mobile App

  1. Select Transfer & pay and then select Pay bills. 
  2. Choose the bill you want to pay then select Pay. 
  3. Enter the amountpayment dateand choose the account to pay fromthen select Pay now to complete the payment.

To set up autopay using online banking and the U.S. Bank Mobile App

  1. Choose Transfer & paythen select Pay bills. 
  2. Locate and select the desired biller from the listthen choose Autopay set up now.
  3. Provide the amountchoose the frequency and the start date. Then select the account to pay from and choose Start autopay.

  • Safe debit accounts default to the standard delivery payment datewhich is the earliest date the electronic payment can be made. 
  • If you don't have digital bills for the billeryou'll only have the option to set up your own schedule. You can add bills to schedule automatic payments based on your billing dates.  

If your bill pay payment is pendingyou can make changes to it using digital banking. If it's in processor is a same-day paymentit can't be changed. 

Please be awarethis process only changes a pending paymentnot the biller's information such as the name or address. To change a bill's informationsee: How do I update my biller's information?

To vieweditor cancel a pending payment using online banking and the U.S. Bank Mobile App

  1. Select Transfer & paythen choose Pay bills.
  2. Choose the biller.
  3. To view your bill payments: Select the Activity tab. There you'll find any scheduledpendingor paid bills.
  4. To edit or cancel a bill payment: Select the pencil icon next to the desired payment.
    • Edit: Make your changes and select Save
    • Cancel: Select Remove this payment and confirm it once more.

To make changes to your autopay using online banking and the U.S. Bank Mobile App

  1. Select Transfer & paychoose Pay billsthen select the Autopay tab. 
  2. Choose the biller whose automatic payment you want to cancel or edit.
  3. Select Manage autopay. 
    • To edit: Update the detailsthen select Save. 
    • To cancel: Select Remove autopaythen select Yesremove my autopay.  

Paying your bills is convenient using digital banking. Sometimesthere's an option to send a payment soonerknown as an "expedited payment". If an expedited payment is available for the billeryou can choose that option during the payment process. If it's notstandard delivery will be the quickest option. 

Please notethere's usually a fee for expediting a payment. The fee amount will display when selecting this option.

If you need to change a pending paymentsee: How do I vieweditor cancel bill payments? 

To send an expedited payment using online banking 

  1. Select Transfer & paythen select Pay bills. 
  2. Next to the biller that you'd like to payselect the calendar icon.
  3. Choose Expedited paymentthen confirm your choice by selecting Add expedited delivery. 
  4. Enter the amountpayment dateand choose the account to pay from.
  5. Optional: Repeat steps 2 through 4 to pay additional bills. A total amount for the bills selected will display. 
  6. Select Review and pay, then choose Pay now.

To send an expedited payment using the U.S. Bank Mobile App 

  1. Select Transfer & pay, then choose Pay bills.  
  2. Choose the bill you wantthen select Pay. 
  3. Select the Deliver payment by date field. 
  4. Choose Add expedited deliveryconfirm again by selecting Add expedited deliverythen select Save to confirm.
  5. Enter the amountpayment dateand choose the account to pay fromthen select Pay now to complete the payment.  

Digital bills are electronic versions of your paper bills with other companies or billers. If your biller has themthe option to link them to your U.S. Bank profile will be available. See also: What are digital bills?

To receive a biller's digital bills using online banking and the U.S. Bank Mobile App

  1. Select Transfer & paythen Pay bills. 
  2. Select the biller you'd like digital bills for.
  3. Choose Digital bills. 
  4. Provide us with the bill's account information. 
  5. Select Link bill.  

You can create groups to manage your billers. Before you can create a groupyou’ll need at least five billers listed in your bill pay list. To make changes to an existing group, see: How do I edit or remove a group in bill pay?

To create a bill pay group in online banking and the U.S. Bank Mobile App

  1. Online banking: Select Transfer & pay, then choose Pay bills. 
    U.S. Bank Mobile App: Select Transfer & paychoose Pay bills and then select More.
  2. Select Create groups. 
    Note: If you already have an existing groupselect Manage groupsthen Create groups. 
  3. Enter the group's name. Mark the checkbox next to the bills you'd like in this groupthen select Save.   

You can easily delete a biller from your list of bills. Howeverif the bill is a U.S. Bank accountit cannot be removed from the list. 

To delete a biller from the bill pay list using online banking and the U.S. Bank Mobile App

  1. Select Transfer & pay and then select Pay bills.
  2. Locate and select the desired biller from the list. 
  3. Select the pencil icon next to the biller's name.
  4. Choose Delete this billthen select Delete to confirm the removal.  

Mobile check deposit

Mobile check deposit is a feature within the U.S. Bank Mobile App that lets you deposit checks into your U.S. Bank checking or savings account digitally. And there's no fee. All you need is a mobile device with a camera.1 

Please notemobile check deposit is only available on the U.S. Bank Mobile App. This service is not available on our full website.

To deposit a check using the U.S. Bank Mobile App

  1. Select Transfer & paythen choose Deposit a check. 
  2. Select the account you'd like to deposit funds intothen enter the check amount. 
    Note: For U.S. Treasury checksuse the toggle bar to avoid impacting your daily and weekly deposit limits. 
  3. Sign the check.
    • Turn the check over and clearly sign your name in the endorsement space.
    • Use black or blue ink for better visibility.
  4. Take a picture of the front and back of the check.
    For best resultsfollow these tips:
    • Take the picture directly above the check while holding the camera still. 
    • Place your check on a dark background.
    • Have strong enough lighting to see all details.
    • Make sure all four corners show and the check is flat without folds or creases.
    • Ensure the picture is in focus. If it's blurrytry taking the picture again.
  5. Optional: Add a note in the Personal note field.
    • Avoid adding sensitive information such as PINsaccount numbersor passwords.
    • These notes are specific to your profile and can be referenced later. This information is not added to our system of record; thereforeonly you can read them.
  6. Review the details of your mobile deposit and select Deposit.
    Note: We recommend retaining all checks for at least seven business days after the deposit is made.      

More information

Checks eligible for mobile check deposit includebut aren't limited to:

  • Consumerbusiness and corporate checks.
  • Payable Through drafts.
  • Money orders.
  • Cashier's checks.

These checks are not eligible for mobile check deposit:

  • Items drawn on foreign banks or in foreign currency.
  • Paper drafts with MICR printingsuch as convenience checks drawn off credit products such as home equity lines of credit and credit cards.
  • U.S. Savings bonds.
  • Third-party and substitute checks.

Internal & external transfers

You can make an internal transfer using digital banking whenever it's convenient for you. Transfer requests submitted on weekendsholidaysor after cutoff timewill be processed on the next business day. 

To transfer money using online banking

  1. Select Transfer & pay and choose Transfers.
  2. Choose which account to transfer funds from and which account to send them tothen select Continue.
  3. Complete the remainder of the formthen select Continue. 
    • Required: Enter the amount to transfer.
    • Optional:
      • Mark the checkbox for Repeat this transfer.
      • Change the date.
  4. Review the information. If correctselect Send transfer.

To transfer money using the U.S. Bank Mobile App

  1. Select Transfer & pay then choose Send transfer.
  2. Choose the account to transfer funds from and select Continue.
  3. Select the account to transfer funds to and select Continue.
  4. Complete the remainder of the formthen select Continue.
    • Required: Enter the amount to transfer.
    • Optional: Change the date.
  5. Review the information. If correctselect Send transfer.

With external transfer you can transfer money to or from your account with another bank.1 When this serviceplease keep in mind you'll need to be a signer on both accounts. Transfer requests submitted on weekendsholidaysor after cutoff timewill be processed on the next business day. 

The delivery speed will varydepending on the receiving bank.2

  • Most transfers are completed within one to three business days.
  • Some banks allow instant transferswhich are completed in minutes.
  • Transfers are automatically sent by the fastest delivery method available.

To transfer money using online banking

  1. Select Transfer & pay and choose Transfers.
  2. Choose which account to transfer funds from and which account to send them tothen select Continue.
  3. Complete the remainder of the formthen select Continue. 
    • Required: Enter the amount to transfer.

Instant payment network allows you to instantly send and receive funds24 hours a dayseven days a week. Transactions are real-time and immediate.

Request for Payment in bill pay

A Request for Payment (RfP) is a feature that allows merchantsbillers, banks or other companies to send payment requests to you anytime directly through mobile and online banking. You can view and respond to the payment request by approving or dismissing the request. If you approvefunds will be sent immediately via Instant Payment to the RfP sender.

There is no fee if you choose to pay with RfP.

To begin using RfP with bill payselect Instant payment/RfP as the digital payment method and provide your bank account information to the biller. Note that not all billers support RfP.

At the time of enrollmentthe biller will send you a notice to confirm your enrollment. When your RfP bill is readythe biller sends it to U.S. Bank. You’ll receive an email from U.S. Bank and a notification in mobile and online banking with the biller’s nameamount to pay and due date. You can pay instantlyschedule a payment or dismiss the request.

If you don’t respond to a RfPit will remain on the dashboard until the expiration date and time set by the biller. Note: This may be different from the payment due date and time.

You can send instant payment for an RfP 24 hours a dayseven days a week.

If your biller supports amount modificationyou can pay partial or more than the amount due.

Yes. Go directly to your biller dashboard and edit or cancel the payment where they have this digital payment option.

You will receive a payment confirmation on your U.S. Bank mobile or online banking screen as well as an email from U.S. Bank when the RfP payment is received by the biller.

Instant external transfers

The instant transfer option allows you to transfer money between your U.S. Bank accounts and eligible accounts you hold at other financial institutions any time you want using an instant payment network. This action transfers your money immediatelyso the funds will typically be available in a few moments.

There is no fee for instant transfers to or from your external account.

Currentlyyou can only send or receive transfers from external banks that are part of a domestic instant payment network. The instant transfer option will only show as available if your external bank is eligible. If an instant transfer isn’t possibleyou can still transfer money using the standard (ACH) one- to three-day speed.

For inbound transfers (from accounts at another financial institution to your U.S. Bank account)RfP is an instant transfer request that you can send anytime from U.S. Bank to your eligible external bank account. Your external bank will ask you to review and approve the RfP with an alert notification. Once you approve the RfP at your external bankmoney will instantly transfer to your U.S. Bank account.

When you initiate an instant transfer using RfP at U.S. Bankyou will have five days to complete the transfer through your external bank. If you do not complete the transferthe request will expire and you will need to initiate a new RfP request at U.S. Bank.

  1. From the online banking dashboardselect Transfer & paythen Transfers and then Linked accounts. From the U.S. Bank Mobile Appselect Transfer & pay and then Manage external accounts. 
  2. Select Link a new bank account. 
  3. When asked“How do you want to connect your account?”select Share your account info. 
  4. Follow the prompts to enter the information for your external account and complete verification.

External transfer limits apply to the amount you can send or receive for each transaction and include all outstanding transfers. After linking your external account in mobile or online bankingyou can view your external transfer limits on the Let’s start your transfer screen by selecting More about transfer limits.

For an inbound instant transfer via RfPyour external bank may have a different RfP payment limit.
