There are only 46 days until the Chicago Bears renew their rivalry with the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football. Exhalefriends. Football is coming.
- The Bears had their first training camp practice on Wednesday. And with the first practice comes the first batch of practice highlights via the team’s social media channels:
- Watching sizzle reels on a Thursday morning is good for the soul. The same can be said about watching running back Roschon Johnson put moves on defenders. We won’t know what the running game looks like until players put on padsbut the snippet above was nice to see.
- Also nice to see: Quarterback Tyson Bagent airing it out. Pretty neat to see undrafted rookie JP Richardson make a splash play. If that play had happened with fans in attendanceRichardson would have instantly become a fan favorite. As for BagentI enjoyed seeing him go deep more than I probably shouldconsidering that it came in a practice clip. I thought the coaching tandem of Matt Eberflus and Luke Getsy suppressed Bagent’s willingness to throw the ball downfield with their conservative mindset. Hopefullyan offensive-leaning head coach will allow for Bagent to open up and go long.
- ICYMI: Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson shared a Luther Burden III injury update during his Thursday morning press conference. Burden is “day-to-day” (aren’t we all?) with a soft-tissue issue that has lingered into training camp. Maybe I’m being too optimistic reading into Johnson’s wordsbut the day-to-day designation gives me a glimmer of hope that the rookie receiver will be available sooner rather than later. I have my fingers crossed that he will be on the practice field this weekend.

- TRANSACTION ALERT PT. I: The Bears announced (via Twitter/X) the release of safety Tarvarius Moore on Wednesday afternoon. It isn’t the first cut of the summerbut I would consider it the first notable cut when you consider that Moore was in on 42.3 percent of the team’s special teams snaps last year. That group always sees turnoverand this year will be no different.
- TRANSACTION ALERT PT. II: One day after placing defensive back Alex Cook on waiversthe Bears brought him back into the fold. The team’s PR account on Twitter announced the move. Cook signed on with the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2023 and has since spent time with the Carolina Panthers (2023-24) before returning to the Giants in 2024. A second-team All-Pac-12 defender in 2022Cook was a teammate of Rome Odunze’s at Washington. That is a fun connection to make.
- I missed a chunk of yesterday’s action because of an appointment. With that being saidI think the CHGO Bears podcast did a good job catching me up with what I missed:
- During the podGreg Braggs Jr. makes an astute observation about the Bears social media team not airing press conferences. Like BraggsI think that is a miss by the team. SometimesI feel like we, on the wholeare missing the plot with social media. The point of this thing was to interact with others in ways that were previously unavailable. Andyesyou should still read the beats. Don’t get it twisted. But there is so much stuff that goes on the cutting room floor (quotescontextetc.) that fans are better served getting opportunities to watch the full press conferences for themselves. Hopefullythe team rights this wrong moving forward.
- More from the Bears beat via The Athletic (Fishbain)Tribune (WiedererBiggs)Sun-Times (FinleyLieser)and 670 The Score (Emma).
- From NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero (via Twitter/X) on New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields’ injury: “The initial report on Jets QB Justin Fields is there no fracture in the toe that got stepped on in practice todayper source. He’s getting an MRI as the team continues to gather information.” There were reports of Fields being carted off the field earlier on Thursday.
