Music And Drama Education Awards 2023
WINNER - OUTSTANDING MUSIC EDUCATION RESOURCE.
The judges praised Sparkyard as a significantcomprehensive resource for primary teachers.
The judges highlighted the affordability of the resource for schools with varying budgetsand applauded its potential for effective use by specialist music teachersand non-musicians.
The website is easy to navigatethe content is awesome. I can’t wait for us to take this to the whole school in September. As someone who does not have a musical backgroundI’ve found this so easy to follow and understand. It has given me so much more confidence to teach the subject.
Huge congratulations Out of the Ark Music for creating such a superb resource.
Y5 Class Teacher and Music CoordinatorLea Forest Primary Academy
It is particularly helpful for assembliesas all teachers can access and work on songs without the music teacher being present. It is also helpful to see which songs fit in with particular assembly themes. It has made music more accessible for all and has made my life so much easier!

Music/songs are readily available and there is a wide collection of songs for different occasions. Staff found the navigation of Sparkyard to be easy and enjoyed being able to access songs from the classroom into assembly and vice versa. It has been used in our SEND department to be able to work with the children and provide aid and confidence in speech – some children find it easier to express themselves through song than verbally in sentences.
It also has a calming effect for others as they join in. Staff are more confident in the teaching of singing both in the classroom and in assembliesmusic is accessed regularly as it is easily accessible.

Our music curriculum covers the statutory National Curriculum for England and satisfies a wealth of suggestions made in the Model Music Curriculum (non-statutory).
The curriculum in Sparkyard exceeds the breadth and ambition of the MMCwhile allowing you the flexibility to adapt to the specific needs of the children in your school.
You can see our in-depth content coveragekey learning and skills overview document on the Music Curriculum page within Sparkyard.
We have also attached the overview here for your information – take a look at the skills progression pages where you can look at progression through a particular strand of the National Curriculum (e.g. composing) or by year group. We will be producing some detailed Model Music Curriculum mapping in the future.
Sparkyard works best when it’s used across the whole schoolnot just in music lessons. Our own research, backed up by many other studiesshows that fully integrating singing across the school day – from the classroom to the lunchtime queue and the playground – can see measurable increases in pupil self-confidenceas well as improved performance in mathsEnglish and much more.
