Harbor Frieght Mini Steel Toolbox

They are very good for a great number of things. Mine hold my often used leather working tools. It’s nice to be working and be able to open a drawer and have most of what you need laid out like a surgical table.

I picked up a Black one on the ITC member early Black Friday Sale with other stuff on sale.
I keep gunsmithing punches in my top drawer. I do want an Orange onehopefully they will make them in that color sometime.

I tried getting one on sale. Always unavailable. Our closest one only let's you buy one per visit due to demandand usually sold out anyway.

I only grabbed this because of those. I found it at a thrifty shopper for $3. I figure I can 3d print some trays for organization inside. I'm thinking CNC router bit'sscroll saw blades. and maybe gauges on top.

It is screaming for a piece of leather riveted to the top for a handle!

I need a version with no top openingjust a third drawer instead. It'd fit nicely on some existing shelving I've got -- enough so I'd probably end up with several of them organizing small hobby stuff.

I'd just build some drawersbut even "cheap" drawer slides are getting stupidly expensive.

These guys were my "secret go-to" for cabinet hardware... I just grabbed a link to a random drawer guide web page.

I quick tip I learned from youtube. Make your drawer slide slot in the cabinetstart 1/2" in from the front and go all the way through the back. Add dowel pins to your drawer sides. Slide the drawer in from the back and install the rear panel. The drawer can't pull out and can be easily removed by pulling the back panel off. One dowel behind center and one at the rear of the drawer. Let the front of the drawer rest on the front panel when sliding. maybe add a piece of plastic there.

Here are the 3D print sites and files if anyone wants to print their own organization trays. gridfinity is an organization system that is universal. all components are designed to lock into the grid.

These are the grid plates that fit the top decktop drawerand bottom drawer. Once you have this you can print any of the gridfinifty options to fit.

This is a calculator to make the base grid to fit whatever boxtrayor table top you have for the system. You can also use it to design your own inserts that fit the system.

They have a side tray too!!

The HF model:
Does the lid stay up ?
Is this only available in 2 drawers?

I bought the Lowe’s Kobalt model and the lid does not stay up. And the drawers feel flimsy and very “gritty” when opening and closing
I’m going to take it back
My plan is for watches and knives

The lid will stay up but only because it leans back. The HF box has drawer slides and magnets to help keep them closed. Kobalt doesn't have either. The HF has liners too I don't think the Kobalt does?
