Harbor Freight Wool Blanket

I have a few that are maybe now ten years old. I found them durable enough and a little softer than a USGI wool blanketbut they did smell horrible at first. I cleaned up a couple by washing themthen airing them out on a clothesline for about a week. They were ok for casual outdoor stuffand I had a couple layered on beds for years. I think they were a good value for what I paid for them. They were wool/poly blendso not as flame resistant as all wool.

Thanks for the answers so far.

I go bushcrafting on the Continental Divide (or near it).

Were the Harbor Freight blankets warm?

They are good on a bedbut they arent woven as tight as a Hudson Bay or Pendleton. I don’t think they will stop much wind on their own. Probably be ok inside a poncho or tarp though. I think I used one under a sleeping bag in a tent before as a “pad.” I’m pretty spoiled by Pendletons and HB’s nowbut they are many times more expensive.

Harbor Freight calls these blankets single usebut they are better than that IMO. FYI - mine were made in India. Just to make sure you are looking at the exact same product.

I bought one on a whim. It had the odor mentioned but went awayhanging it outdoors for a few days. I used it onceand it wasn't all that warm. The real wool blanket I was gifted by a member here is about 100X better all around.

The ones sold at Harbor Freight are moving blanketsand made with a bunch of material mashed togetherranging from wool to poly's. I'll end up using it as an insulation layer under me on the cotbut wouldn't trust them as an insulation layer on the ground.

I have one and use it regularly at camp. Not as tight of a knit as others but for $10 I'll keep using it. Mine did not have the smell that others mentioned though. I'm buy more when my local HF gets some back in stock.

Anything from harbor freight is a hard pass for me.
They have decent stuff at good pricesyou just need to know what to buy and what not to buy.

Alright. I think that based on this thread (several warnings and your statement that they're okay) I will try one or two out.

I have wool blanketsbut I got them in the military. They're oddly sentimental to me nowand also getting old. I'm trying to scout some replacements.

Thanks for all your inputeveryone!
