Axle Swap G292 to G294

Hello All

I just bought a 1990 4Runner 22RE 5Spd. 4x4 a few weeks ago. I have been experiencing some hollow grinding noise which I thought was the wheel bearing at first but have now come to realize that it may actually be the rear differential/ring & pinion. (There is play in where the driveshaft connect to the rear end.

Since its a 4x4 I was informed that both front and rear differentials must remain at the same gear ratio. Mine should be 4.10 per my door sticker indicating G292.

I was looking around but could not find one and when I did using a known website (car-parts) I arrived at the yard and the part was non existant.
Finally I came across one - V6 Runner G294 Axle Code. I jumped on it as it should be the same ratio G=8" | 29=4.10 Ratio | 4=4 Pinion

I only have one concern after I bought the part. WILL IT FIT MY 4Runner? I have not seen much on this topic. Maybe I have been using the wrong keywordsbut for a week and a half I have been serching this topic like a dope feen looking for their next highI cannot find much and when I do find something its not what I was looking for.

Alsoon the axle I boughtthere is some type of electrical wire which may go to some type of bolt in sensor. The wire is coming out of the top of the 3rd member housing (area that bolts to the axle housing and has ribs on it) What is this wire for? Its not on my G292 Axle.

Sorry if this seems long-winded but Im just looking for a solid answer.

Any help is appreciated.

As long as its an 8" 4.10 youre good! It will bolt right in. The wire on the top is for ABS. you can either cut the wire and leave it plugging the holeor take it out and make a block off plate.

If anything you did betterbecause the v6 diffs are stronger because of bigger bearings in the 3rd. The rest of the axle is identical to the 4cyls.

You bought the whole axle? good time to do the breaks and any seals that need it now before it goes into the truck. Or swap the 3rd over to your current axle.

I bought the whole axle. Near as I can tell the only things that were wrong with it was that the dust covers were bent a bit but i bent them back to clear the brake drums from rubbing on them. other than that I doneed new brake shoes and a couple lug studs but that will be easy.

Wow....I didnt know that there was another abs sensor on the top of the 3rd member housing. I thought that there were only 2 abs sensors in the axle housing in front of the inner seal on both sides.

THANKS FOR THE INFO

One other pointthe other main difference in the two is the pinion count. the 4cly have 2the 6cyl have 4.
