I searched a bit but never got a complete answer. I picked up a pretty clean 89 runner a few months backjust a camping or mild trail type rig. I was gonna purchase a lockrightaussie or simple locker to drop in it and thats when I saw the code on the door jam.

I was under the impression that V6 diffs were all 4 pinionso a G292 code is not what I expected. Is this a typo or is there actually a 2 pinion V6 third in existence on the early 3.0's?

Either wayjust need to know I am gonna purchase the right locker.

Yeah its 4x489 2 doorremovable shell5 speed with a 3.0 (3vzfe). I know the 2wd v6 thirds have 2 pinion but this must be a typo or something. I am just gonna get the drop in locker and will be home at first of month to pull it and have a look see.

Worst case scenario I pull it and it's wrong. I am going to go on the assumption that it is 4 pinion and see what happens.

My 86 turbo 4runner has the same code.

My 89 V6 truck has that axles code. Regardless of the codethe truck had a 4 pinion carrier and v6 third.

My '88 V6 4Runner has the g292 code as wellbut it is in fact a 4 pinion carrierI put a detroit in it last month. I've seen it a bunch of times around heredon't know whybut Toyota just wasn't paying attention to their own code system.

So the gear code on the door jamb is wrong then? Either wayI already got a drop in locker and will install it next trip home. Will report back after I yank the third.
