With the tight timeline between on-prem Exchange Server 2019 EOL and Exchange Server 2025 releaseI am trying to make sure I have all of my other ducks in a row. I have found a couple of articles that state I will be able to do an in-place upgrade from Exchange Server 2019 to Exchange Server 2025 (feel free to correct me if I’m wrong about that)but I have not found any indication of Exchange Server 2025 system requirements. Will Exchange Server 2025 run on Windows Server 2019? Anyone know?

Thanks in advance!

Nobody knows because they haven’t come close to releasing the next version of Exchange.

That saidsince they plan to allow in place upgradeassume hardware requirements are the same. Good question about the OSthough. Given that they haven’t historically allowed OS upgrade underneath ExchangeI would say that either next version of Exchange will run on Windows 2019or they will allow in place upgrade of Exchange 2019 to Windows 202x. Maybe they’ll only support in place upgrade of Exchange 2019 on Windows 2022. Could happen.

I think the Exchange team is still ironing out the details of the 2025 release. They have not said much about it since an update last year where they said they were delayed because of all the Exchange on-premise attacks. They mention that you can do an in-place upgrade so this implies that it should run on Server 2019. And they state that you may not have to acquire new hardware or move mailboxes and that upgrading to the next version will be easier that previous upgrades (heard that before).

Exchange 2025 isn’t due to be released until 2025by which time you may have moved onyour company may have moved on or Exchange may no longer in use.

Either way the only other thing I can addisit will be subscription based.
