Emilia Pérez leads the 2025 Oscar nominationswhich were revealed Thursday morning.
The film scored 13 nomssetting a record for a non-English-language film. That surpasses the previous record holdersCrouching TigerHidden Dragon and Romawhich each earned 10.
Following Emilia Pérez were The Brutalist and Wickedwhich tied with 10 noms apiece. A Complete Unknown and Conclave followed with eight mentions each.
All five of those films will compete for best picture with AnoraDune: Part TwoI’m Still HereNickel Boys and The Substance. Coralie Fargeatwho directed the latter filmwas the only female to be nominated in the best directing categoryand also scored a writing nomwhile star Demi Moore landed the first Oscar nom of her careeras did Isabella Rossellini for Conclave.

Other acting nominees include Sebastian Stan and Jeremy Strong for The Apprentice, Timothée Chalamet and Monica Barbaro for A Complete UnknownRalph Fiennes for Conclave and Colman Domingo for Sing Sing, among others. Strong will compete in the same category as his former Succession co-star Kieran Culkinnominated for A Real Pain. The announcement of the 2025 Academy Awards nomineesoriginally set for FridayJan. 17was delayed twice amid the Los Angeles wildfireswhich have left at least 28 people dead with more than 14,000 structures destroyed and nearly 40,000 acres burned.
As the fires raged across Los Angeles on Jan. 8the day voting for this year’s nominees openedthe Film Academy extended the voting window through Jan. 14 with a plan to announce this year’s nominees on Jan. 19. But as the devastation caused by the fires continued to unfold the following weekon Jan. 13the Academy again extended the nominations voting window until Jan. 17 and set Jan. 23 as the date for this year’s announcement.
The Academy has also donated $1 million to the Motion Picture & Television Fund’s wildfire relief effortsincluding $250,000 that it would’ve spent on the Oscar nominees luncheon on Feb. 10which has been canceled. The Academy plans to move forward with this year’s Oscars but revealed Wednesday that the ceremony will also “honor Los Angeles.”
The 97th Academy Awardshosted by Conan O’Brienwill air live coast-to-coast on SundayMarch 2from the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywoodstarting at 4 p.m. PT / 7 p.m. ETcontinuing with the earlier start time the show debuted last yearon ABC and Hulu.
