    warning   Warning

    "Display brightness" had been removed from Power Options by default starting with Windows 10 build 17639.

    This tutorial will show you how to add or remove the Display brightness setting under Display in Power Options for all users in Windows 7Windows 8and Windows 10.

    You must be signed in as an administrator to be able to add or remove this setting in Power Options.

    This will not affect users from being able to change the display brightness using other methods.

    I see no brightness options either before or after using this fix on my Dell laptop. Is this a hardware limitation of the laptop?

    I tried the fix above with 1809 and no joy here either.

    I then located another solution elsewhere (shown below) but was unable to make any changes to the DWORD value.

    No more display brightness adjustment in advanced power options menu

    I've searched high and low trying to find a solution to add this feature back for 1809I give up.... for now.

    One thing I did discover is that I can set brightness levels with my keyboard and the resultant % value is displayed as a DWORD in the following registry location;

    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\User\PowerSchemes\381b4222-f694-41f0-9685-ff5bb260df2e
    \7516b95f-f776-4464-8c53-06167f40cc99
    \aded5e82-b909-4619-9949-f5d71dac0bcb

    ACSettingIndex REG_DWORD 0x00000014 (20)
    DCSettingIndex REG_DWORD 0x0000000a (10)

    Is there any way I can use these registry values to generate a GUI so as I don't have to dig in the registry every time I want to verify brightness settings?

    I also can't change these DWORD valuesI get an error editing value. If I could edit the valuesthis could replace one of the display brightness settings that disappeared from the advanced power menu.

    I would appreciate any words of wisdom. Thanks in advance,

    Michael

    Thanks Brink.

    I was happy with option 7 before it disappeared. I could use the laptop function keys multiple times per day but they only have an analog column with no digital value. With the variable ambient lightingall settings would be subjective to the actual screen content which is constantly changing.

    I know specifically that settings of 26% DC and 38% AC cover most of my viewing interests but not all.

    The room where I use my laptop 99% of the time is subjected to significant changes in ambient light level as the sun moves each day and I also cycle the battery between 45% & 85% (with the brightness set lower on battery).

    I did find a command-line solution;

    powercfg /SetAcValueIndex 381b4222-f694-41f0-9685-ff5bb260df2e 7516b95f-f776-4464-8c53-06167f40cc99 aded5e82-b909-4619-9949-f5d71dac0bcb 38

    powercfg /SetDcValueIndex 381b4222-f694-41f0-9685-ff5bb260df2e 7516b95f-f776-4464-8c53-06167f40cc99 aded5e82-b909-4619-9949-f5d71dac0bcb 26

    Then I found this app that has great features that include a digital level display of volume and display brightness. Adjustment of both can easily be made with a mouse-over scroll button. This solution can be found here;

    ClickMonitorDDC is a portable freeware tool to adjust brightness or contrast of a DDC compatible monitor by simply clicking a notification icon in the taskbar tray areathis icon also shows the actual monitor-values. There is support for multi monit
