Gonna be in China for a little over two weeks (Beijing and Shanghai)

I'm really looking for where to shop for:
Hair (none of my hair vendors are in these citiesbut I'm sure there are areas where I can find some good hair)
Electronics (for instance I'm looking for a camera lens for my phone)
Authentic Chinese items (clothingaccessories and home decor)
Wholesale clothing and accessories

I'm not big on sightseeingbut if it's super interesting/unique I'll give it a try

Also which vpn is the best? Free is preferablebut I'm willing to pay

Tips for doing this alone?

So instead of looking up amazing historical locations you're looking for the flea markets that sell horse hair? I also noticed you want wholesale clothes.

Do you want to be the next alley-express and sell some cheap clothes from the trunk of your car? What a weirdo.

Beijing: Silk Alley Market (Xiu Shui)
Shanghai: Qipu Lu Clothing Market
Vpn: BetternetPsiphon (better to download them outside of China of course)
Can't help you with buying hair though.

For the shoppingthe vendors will have a calculator and they'll type in a price therethen you counteract with your own price. Have an idea of which exactly you want to buy and source the prices beforehand so you aren't ripped off. The vendors will start off extravagant. For instancethey'll say a Chinese fan costs 300 rmb (50 usd) but you can work them down to 10 rmb (1.50usd)it just takes time. It also help if you are buying more than one.

Expect them to take pictures of you and stare at you like you have two horns and a tail. They might also touch your hair.
The smog is also really badespecially in Beijing. But the different cultural sites are beautiful.
Oh and the street tofu is stinky.

Chinese are probably the biggest suppliers of human hair
I wear lace wigs that I order directly from China

Hope that answers your question

These Ig folks that sell hair like Ming does the same thing. She went to China to see the quality of product and made a connection with the dealer. Make sure you watch them ship your product off.

If you are buying electronics just buy one first ( make sure it works where ever you live) make sure the settings can be set to whatever it is that you want.

Good luck

For the most part I don't have much interest in tourist attractions (outside of some interesting museums) and the group I'm traveling with already has some of that worked into our itinerary. I wanna do these things in my down time.

Not sure how you came up with the bolded. I love shopping at "street fairs" or flea markets for authentic items...I do this in every country I visit (Kenya was my fav). But I'm looking for virgin human hair.

I asked about wholesale clothing because I figure most of the stuff we buy in malls and online come from these same wholesalers in China...why not cut costs if I'm already there? I have no interest in selling clothes

Hope that answers your questions

Exactly
Ordering online can be hit or miss and while I've had mostly positive experiencesnothing beats examining the hair before purchasing

If you have a spare day travel to Guangzhou for the hair markets. It's literally like going to high rise apartment complex but behind every door is a different vendor. Some what overwhelming.

if there are any vendors that you like or have used before on aliexpress ask them if you can come and visit their factory's
