My Flowmaster muffler completely rusted through one of the pipes on the outlet side. The other one is just about rusted through. This muffler came on my 2013 Rocky Ridge Ram which was purchased new in March 2014 and right now I have 36.400 miles on the truck. I'm not exactly sure what Flowmaster model this one wasbut I think it should have lasted a lot longer than this! It seems like this was a muffler replacement only....similar to the Mufflex / Magnaflow kits. The remaining OEM portion of my exhaust is still in very good condition and no where near needing replacement. I live in the Northeast where we see snow and salt / brine covered roads in the winterbut I always try to get to a powerwasher after each storm. Anyone else have this issued with their Flowmaster muffler?

Flowmaster normally uses aluminized steel. In the northeast that usually wont hold up for long. stainless steel is the only way to go in the NE. I live in NYI only buy stainless steel exhaust componentseven for my 92 Mustang which doesn't even move in the winter months.

We always suggest at least 409 stainless if not a 304 stainless product for those areas. We got some options in stock and ready to go if you need someting

Always buy magnaflow..... lasts longer than any vehicle I've ever had. Flowmaster does that in Canada real fast. My buddy had so many sets in the time I had 1 magnaflow cause he liked the sound better.

The aluminized steel doesn't work here. HonestlyI wouldn't use it anyplace. I did a lot of research today...was gonna get a cat back Borla system....which is 304ss. Butsince the OEM portion is still goodI ordered a Mufflex kit. Not 304SS.....but it's 409. I had one on my last Ram and it held up fine. I looked at a friends Ram today to see how his Mufflex kit was holding up.... still looked fine with over 100K miles on the muffler....just surface rust..no structural damage at all. No more Flowmaster for me... Any full exhaust I purchase will be Borla.... one million mile warranty on them.

I've had my Mufflex for 4.5 years and it has seen 3 NE winters. Only has some minor surface rust common to 409 ss

Keep your eye on it. I'm under my truck periodically and knew mine was rusting pretty bad....but had no idea it would come apart at 36K miles. The only way I realized it broke was one of my exhaust tips was sitting crooked...

If your truck sees salt you have to watch what your buying with Flowmaster. Most of the kits and mufflers are aluminized steel but they do offer 409 which will hold up fine.

I've ran a 40 and 50 series on two different trucksI optd for the stainless versions for a small difference in cost.

You're going to run into the same issues with many different manufactures whether it's FlowmasterThrushJonesFlo Proetc.

Wowyou guys up north have it rough! A Flowmaster here in the south will last well over 10 years.

My thoughts exactly. Complete garbage. If you don't run stainless it is a waste all that other stuff just doesn't last here maybe 2 years tops.

Mine is a 2014 Altitudethe passenger side muffler outlet rotted right through at the clamp last month. Bought the truck new in 2015so not even 3 yrs old yet. I just bought a whole new Flowmaster outlaw system. Supposedly all stainless. It does sound awesome.
