Renew Your Medicaid or CHIP Coverage

How Do I Keep My Plan?

Continuous Medicaid coverage and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) coverage ended on March 312023. Renew your benefits on time so you can keep your coverage if you are eligible. If you do not renewyou may lose your coverage. 

Need to Renew Your Benefits or Update Your Account?

  • Renew Your Benefits

    • Look for a notice from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC). Check Renew Your Benefits.
    • If you have a Your Texas Benefits accountyour renewal notice will be sent electronically. Log in to your account. Go to "Select Details,” then “Time to renew.”
    • If you don’t have an online accountyou will get a yellow envelope in the mail that says Action Required in red. This is what the yellow envelope looks like.
    • Submit paper applications by mail or fax to:

      • Fax: 1-877-447-2839
    • If you need help with your renewal:
    • Be sure to turn in proof of income and any other information you are asked to provide.
    • You must respond within 30 daysor you could lose your benefits.
  • Make Updates 

    The best way to protect your benefits is to make sure HHSC has your most up-to-date contact information. You should report changes such as addressphone numberpregnancyor household member changes.

    • Make updates online at yourtexasbenefits.com or on the Your Texas Benefits mobile app.
    • Log in and select “Manage” to confirm or update your account information.
    • Select “Details” and report a change to confirm or update your nameaddressphone number and email.
    • Make updates on the HHSC Mobile App.
    • Call 2-1-1 and choose Option 2 after you pick a language. 

What if I No Longer Qualify for Medicaid or CHIP?

If you no longer qualify for Medicaid or CHIPyou may be able to get another health plan. You could be eligible to get help paying for a plan through premium tax credits or cost-sharing assistance.

  • Medicaid Health Plan Updates

    HHSC extended its postpartum Medicaid coverage to 12 months for eligible womeneffective March 12024. The 12 months of postpartum coverage begins the month after a pregnancy has ended. Get answers to frequently asked questions about the postpartum coverage extension.

    If you have any questionscall the Customer Advocate Department at the phone number listed on your member ID card. 

  • CHIP Health Plan Updates

    HHSC extended its postpartum CHIP coverage to 12 months for eligible womeneffective March 12024. The 12 months of postpartum coverage begins the month after a pregnancy has ended. Get answers to frequently asked questions about the postpartum coverage extension.

    You may have a copay for CHIP services starting October 12024.

    During the COVID-19 public health emergencythe HHSC waived copays for doctor visits for CHIP members. This will end on September 302024.

    For most types of doctor visitsyou will have to pay a copay. You will not have to copay for these types of doctor visits:

    • Check-ups.
    • Preventive services. 
    • Mental health and substance use disorder treatment services.

    The amount you will need to copay is listed on your CHIP member ID card.

    Your copay amount was based on your income when you enrolled in CHIP. You don’t have to copay for CHIP services if you are:

    • Native American.
    • An Alaska Native.
    • A CHIP Perinatal member.
