That is a fine-looking rifle! They just don't make'em like that anymore.
Here is my J.C. Higgins 103.18 that my father bought for $8 right before WWII. We used to pick up bottles from the side of the roadthen go down to Pearson's Store and trade them in for a box of 22 LR
Todayit's worth ten times what dad paid for it.

I inherited one w/out the retractable sling when my Dad passed a few years back. It's kind of a safe queen nowI don't know the last time it's been fired.

I have a Sears bolt action rifle (actually a Marlin model 80) Model 42 DL (deluxe?). It has a full size walnut stocka chrome trigger and trigger guard and is fed by a 7 round detachable magazine. My dad bought it in 1959 at Sears to take my brother and I shooting. My brother isn't much of a gun nut so I have the rifle. It is a very accurate rifle and the magazine will handle shortslongsand long rifle.
Yours however is a classic! That one was likely top of the line back then.
