Beach Parking

Pretty common where parking is at a premium.

You have to check; some of the “off” hours are when the beach access is closed. As shownit looks like only the peak hours are paid.

Thanks and that’s my impression as well regarding free hours. I’ve been going to that beach nearly 40 years and when he sent that pic I had no idea they had started charging.

Thank goodness the plentiful Beach Accesses in Kitty HawkKill Devil Hillsand Nags Head are free. There are several that have bath houses and most have at least a porta-potty! One needs to get there early in summer because they all fill up quick (and there is plenty of them). Some accesses in Kitty Hawk have parking lots across NC 12 w/pedestrian walkways to safely access the beach.
The Town of Southern Shores has no free public access. Residents are issued tags for their vehicles and passes for the beach. If a house is a rental homethe homeowner must purchase passes for their guests. If one parks in a Southern Shores beach parking area w'out a tagthe police will issue a ticket! The Town of Duckhas no public beach accesses. All beach accesses are private and homeowners will call the police if they do not know you. Some may call the police even if they do know you! There are a couple of subdivisions in Duck that have no beach access. Those summer rentersand some from Southern Shores go to Kitty HawkKill Devil Hillsand Nags Head. The last three towns provide a lifeguard beach service who do perform ocean rescues. The free beach access is one item in my taxes I support!
