Biography of Rick Allen

Rick Allen was born on November 11963in DronfieldUnited Kingdom. From an early ageRick had a passion for musicparticularly the drums. Howeverinstead of drumstickshe initially used his mother's kitchen utensils. At the age of tenRick convinced his parents that he needed a proper drum kit. His parents bought him a high-quality drum setand Rick promised to repay them half of the cost once he reached a certain level of proficiency. Rick Allen began learning to play the drums and quickly achieved success. After just six months of intensive practicehe joined his first bandSmokey Blue. He went on to play in several other groupsincluding Rampant and Johnny Kalendar Band.

Career with Def Leppard

When Rick turned fifteenhis life took a pivotal turn. It was during this time that he began his career with the band Def Leppard. In 1979Allen decided to leave school to fully focus on his musical career. Around the same timethe band started performing their first concerts. One of these shows took place at Hammersmith Odeonwhere Allen and his bandmates performed in celebration of Rick's sixteenth birthday. On March 141980Def Leppard recorded their debut album. From that moment onRick Allen and his bandmates embarked on extensive touringstarting in their home country and eventually expanding to international tours.

Tragic Accident and Comeback

On December 311984a tragic event occurred in Rick's life. While on the way to a New Year's Eve partyhe was involved in a severe car accident. The accident resulted in significant injuriesand Rick's left arm had to be amputated due to a subsequent blood infection. Allen fell into a deep depressionquestioning how he would continue to play the drums.

Despite the immense challengesRick persevered. He not only recovered physically and emotionally but also continued his musical career with Def Leppard. TodayRick Allen remains the drummer of the bandshowcasing his true talentbraveryand genuine love for music – a lifelong pursuit.

In 2003Rick Allen married Lauren Monroehis second marriage. He has a daughter from his previous marriage.
