50 Awesome Educational Board Games
This post may contain affiliate links.
Educational board games are a great way to introduce new concepts or review familiar material. They are naturally engagingwhich makes them an effective way to learn. I consider them a win-win. Parents are happy kids are learning and kids are happy because it doesn’t ‘feel’ like learning.
Many people think that educational board games are just for elementary age kidsbut that isn’t true. There are absolutely educational games for older children (even high schoolers) too!
There are a few ways to use these board games:
- Add them to your lesson plans
- Keep a few handy for homeschool ‘sub’ plans
- Enjoy family game nights
Check out some of the best educational board games. The age ranges listed are the manufacturer’s suggestionsbut you know your kids best. I think many kids can play the games earlier than the age ranges listed.

Sight Word Swat is very similar to a sight word game I played with my students during my days as a classroom kindergarten teacher. The idea is that each player has a fly swatter. An adult (or older child who can read the cards) calls out a sight word. The first player to identify the word and swat it wins the card. The player with the most cards at the end of the game wins.
Younger kids always love this game because it is physical and gets them moving.
