U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s “Smart Wall Map” is an interactive map designed to depict the status of border barriers along the 1,954-mile border between the U.S. and Mexico. CBP is utilizing funds from the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act (H.R. 1)” to construct a border barrier systemor a “Smart Wall”which includes a combination of primary and secondary steel bollard wallwaterborne barrierspatrol roadsand the technology required to tie it all togethersuch as cameraslightsand other detection technology. CBP’s Smart Wall Map provides details on the status and locations of border barrier along the Southwest border to include barriers constructed prior to January 202025in addition to where new Smart Wall is being planned for constructionalready under construction or has been completed since January 202025. This information will be updated weekly as construction progresses.

CBP is using the following to define the Smart Wall status:

  • Planned — Represents the total mileage planned/funded for construction but the contracts have not yet been awarded.
  • Awarded — Represents contracts that have been awardedand the project is in the design phase or early construction activities have begun.
  • Under Construction — Represents projects where border wall panels or waterborne barrier is currently being constructed/deployed.
  • Completed — Represents the total mileage that has been completed since 1/20/2025.

* Approximately 535 miles of the U.S. - Mexico border without barrier will be covered by detection technology due to unfavorable terrain or remoteness of location.
