The Olympics lost me years ago when the professionals were allowed to compete.

It was created for amateur athletics.

Waiting for the hockey games. Can't wait for the USA vs Canada game. They were great games last year in the 4 Nation Tournament. But I will have a tough time rooting against Wilson + LT. But it will be a great game. Go Caps!!!

I've been closely following the Lindsey Vonn injuryetc. I like the downhill and slalom races and she is and has always beenquite an athlete. Wild and crazy on those skis and fun to watch. Just her being there nowis a story in and of itself.

How Is Lindsey Vonn Skiing With a Torn ACL? Some People Don't Need One.

"The crash looked season-endingmaybe career-ending. On January 30thLindsey Vonn wiped out just seconds into her downhill run at the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup in Crans-MontanaSwitzerland. She was soon airlifted off the mountainand reports later surfaced that she’d suffered a complete ACL rupture in her left knee.

Yet seven days laterVonnwearing a bracecompleted an official Olympic downhill training run on the Olimpia delle Tofane course in Cortinaplacing 11th and instantly igniting a predictable media cycle: minor miracleimpossiblehow is that even safe?"

Long gone are the days of athlete's training on their own. I don't mind them making a little money to do it. The pros making millions don't need it.

The original Greek Olympics were not for amateurs only. It was only the modern Olympics (since 1896) that had strict "amateur only" ruleswhich essentially limited the Games to wealthy people who didn't have to work for a living and could train. The Sovietsmost famously but not exclusivelymanipulated the amateur rules simply by having all their athletes be members of the militarybut in reality they trained year around for competition. Allowing professionals dropped the pretense and leveled the playing field.

The drone view behind the skier in the downhill race is awesome. Feels like you’re in fighter jet engaged in a dogfight.

Waiting a longlong time to see an American win a medal in ski jumping. We’re the underdogs big time. I don’t know if we’ve ever even qualified for the event.

Vonn probably would ski downhill with her leg in cast. It’s example of her competitiveness and determination . Having said that I hope she walks on into the sunset she has done it all
