And to add to the educational list I found this video hugely helpful in better understanding the mechanism...

Frankly I think Toyota made a mistake in even using the CVT nomenclature since it has such a bad image with true car enthusiaststhis transmission is really an electronically controlled planetary gear device which would have been better named... "ePGT".

That is a fascinating video. Much was over my head but it does explain why the Toyota "CVT" transmission is superior to the belt/chain drive variety. Can I assume the Venza uses the same 710 transaxle as described in the video?

The Venza uses the drivetrain from the RAV4 Hybrid so yesI think it's the 710but I'd need to checkit's either the 710 or the 810 which is the same mechanismjust designed for a bit more power and heavier car.

I am looking at buying a used Toyota and want to know when eCVT was introduced so I can avoid older CVTs. I even asked Toyota Canada and they said ask the dealers?? I am trying to limit my search not contact a bunch of dealers. The models we are contemplating are CamryAvelon and Crown.

Thanks for any help.

Are you looking to get a hybrid or ICE only? Knowing that will help those trying to help you.

Thanks for the replyit gets a little confusing because AutoTrader and CarGurus often don't differentiate between CVTECVT and automatic transmissions. What I really want to know is what year did ECVT replace CVT?

To the best of my knowledge all Toyota hybrid cars/CUVs are eCVT. You'll have to focus on a specific model/year and check the specs for it

I was hoping that there would be an easily available list of vehicles with these specs but it sounds like a very manual search with lots of crossing fingers and hoping the info is correct. Toyota Canada was of no help. They said to contact dealers. I replied saying that they should know what is in their own cars..
Thanks
