projector1 Posted September 152006 Report Posted September 152006 downlaod the ttc open source cd for more open source games and software like tux type!
projector1 Posted November 212006 Report Posted November 212006 I installed it at local primary schoolthe kids love it. Staff have been adding their own rubber stamps too!
crc-ict Posted November 212006 Report Posted November 212006 AgreedTuxPaint is an excellent resource for young children. If anyone is interestedas part of my degreeI wrote a suite of utilities to make living with TuxPaint easier - including tools to import and export children's images for easier use in other programsa tool for the easy addition of stamps to the library and a configuration tool. I would be willing to make these available to any fellow EduGeeks who would like them. Leave a message hereor PM me if you would like to know more. Chris.
Geoff Posted November 212006 Author Report Posted November 212006 The best thing you can do with tools like those are to try and get them included in the offical TuxPaint distrubution. Of course you would have to open source them to do that. What are the terms of your uni degree? Do you own anything you produce for it?

Of course you would have to open source them to do that. What are the terms of your uni degree? Do you own anything you produce for it? That's a good point thereGeoff. I'm actually not too sure about thatdidn't think about it when I offered the tools. I don't particularly want to go down the open-sourceofficial part of the distribution approach (the source probably isn't neat enough to show others...) but would be happy to let site users here have access to the executable files if they'd be useful. Maybe if anyone takes me up on that and says they find them goodI can explore the issues of getting it out more widely.
CyberNerd Posted November 212006 Report Posted November 212006 Maybe if anyone takes me up on that and says they find them goodI can explore the issues of getting it out more widely. One reason I decided not to install it because of the file format problems. (the source probably isn't neat enough to show others...) Interesting argument for not releasing code. I Wonder if thats why it took sun 4yrs to GPL Java. eeek.
crc-ict Posted November 212006 Report Posted November 212006 Just an update: I have contacted the University to check on the copyright status of the TuxTools suiteand if I get confirmation that it is OK to releaseI will sort out a distribution mechanism and post here with the details. Please PM me if you are interested in the tools - I will only release if there is sufficient demand to make it worth my while! @CyberNerd: The suite basically provides a file management interface to get things in and out - it doesn't stop the need for imported files to be in PNG formatand doesn't stop things coming out in PNG format.
