Sage Hall

Sage HallUW-Oshkosh’s first new academic building since 1971opened for classes in fall 2011. The word “sage” has multiple meanings that lend themselves to an academic building that is energy efficientincluding:

  • a mentor in spiritual and philosophical topics who is renowned for profound wisdom
  • having wisdom that comes with age and experience
  • aromatic fresh or dried gray-green leaves used widely as seasoning
  • any of various plants of the genus Salvia; a cosmopolitan herb

The word “sage” also is associated with Socrates and the Socratic Method of inquiryand it aligns well with the “Nature of Wisdom” and “Wisdom of Nature” phrases imprinted in the decorative cast stone panels located on the building’s exterior.

More than $5 million in private funds were raised in support of the four-story191,000-square-foot buildingwhich took two years to construct.
