Nutrition counseling is the foundation of our medical weight loss program. With our RDsyou'll learn exactly what to eat through personalized nutrition guidance and meal prep strategies. This tailored approach supports the development of sustainable eating habits.

At your first appointmentyou will meet with one of our RDs who will get to know you as an individuallearn about your personal weight loss goals and review your current dietary habits.

Most weight loss medications are FDA-approved for adults 18 years old and above for use in conjunction with behavioral modificationsdiet and exercise. CurrentlyNew Jersey Bariatric Center® prescribes Wegovy®Zepbound®Saxenda® and Qsymia® depending on availability.

Are prescription weight loss medications covered by insurance?

Each insurance plan has different coverage for medical weight loss. To find out if you have coverage for prescription weight loss medications and injectionscontact your insurance provider and ask if you have coverage for branded anti-obesity drugs. If you do not have coverageyou have the option to pay out of pocket if you meet the prescription medical weight loss criteria outlined above.

How often will I meet with a weight loss specialist?

Patients in our New Jersey Bariatric Center® weight loss program will meet with a weight loss specialist - a doctor or PA once per month to review their progress and adjust their treatment plan if necessary.

What are the side effects and risks of weight loss medications?

As with all weight loss medications and injectionsthere are side effects. It’s important to discuss the side effects of any medication you are taking with your healthcare provider. The side effects of the most common medications include nauseadiarrheavomitingconstipationstomach painheadache,
tiredness/fatigueupset stomachdizzinessbloatingbelchinggasstomach fluheartburnrunny nose and sore throat.

Potentially severe side effects of taking weight loss medications include inflammation of your pancreas/pancreatitisgallbladder problemsthyroid tumorsincreased heart rateincreased risk of hypoglycemia/low blood sugarkidney infectionsallergic reactionchange in vision and depression or thoughts of suicide.^8,9,10,11

Risks of weight loss medications include injection site paininfection or bruising.

Can weight loss medications help with weight gain from menopause?
