Squaw Creek Parklocated at Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plantprovides an ideal setting for boat fishingbank fishing and recreation. Please click on the links below to learn more about how you can enjoy the park's facilities.

The 2025-26 fishing season runs October 2 – March 29. Reservations now open.

Location
The address for Squaw Creek Park is 2300 Coates RoadGranburyTexas 76048. The park is located off State Highway 144which runs north and south between highways 377 and 67. It is 45 miles southwest of Fort Worthhalfway between Granbury and Glen Rose. Please click here for a map to the park.

Hours of Operation
The park typically opens in late fall through early spring.

The park’s standard hours of operation are 6:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. Thursday through Sunday for bank fishing and boat fishing. Boats must be off the water by 3:30 pm.

The park is closed on ThanksgivingChristmas EveChristmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Please note: Because safety is our top priority at Comanche Peak and Squaw Creek Parkthe park may be closed or the season opening date may be delayed due to weatherlake conditionsor other reasons.

Park Information

  • Squaw Creek Park is owned and operated by Vistra.
  • The reservoir serves as the cooling source for two nuclear power units.
  • The lake’s surface area is approximately 3,200 acres and average depth is approximately 46 feet.
  • There are five divided boat launchesa dock and numerous picnic areas with tables. Click here for a detailed map of the park.

Reservations and Fees

  • Reservations for boats and kayaks are required.
  • The cost per boat is $30 for up to four guests. $5 per person additional beyond four. To be included in the $30 you must be in the same vehicle.
  • The cost per Kayak is $10. Each kayak will need its own reservation.
  • If a boat/kayak arrives at the gate without a reservation they will have to wait until the line is gone. The max number of vessels on the water is 150. If any spots are remainingthen they will be allowed entrance. If 150 have already entered they will be turned away.
  • The admission fee for bank fishing is $5 per person. No reservation is required. Admission for bank fishing is free to those ages 12 and under and 80 and over.

Park Rules
For the safety and security of those enjoying Squaw Creek Parkvisitors are expected to obey all signs and instructions from Squaw Creek Park personnel. Violation of any of these rules may result in expulsion and possible legal prosecution.

  • No Swimming or Wading is allowed.
  • Boat launching will begin at First Light IAW times from sunrise-sunset.org.
  • Turn off your headlights when in the boat ramp area.
  • All boats must be off the water by 3:30 pm.
  • During low visibility conditions (e.g.fog) boats are will operate at idle speeds only. Do not run on pad when you can barely see over the bow of your boat. Endangering other boaters will result in expulsion from the park.
  • In the event an evacuation of the reservoir is necessaryyou will be called/texted on your cell phone by park personnel and instructed to return to the marina. Depending on the severity of the eventyou may be instructed by park personnel or law enforcement to leave your boat secured at or near the dock. If bank fishingyou may be instructed to immediately load your belongings in your vehicle and exit the park.
  • Visitors must comply with all Texas Parks and Wildlife regulationsincluding fishing and boating laws.
  • Filming is not allowed without prior permission from Squaw Creek Park management. We do allow individuals to video their own fishing with GoPro cameras. Please do not directly video the Nuclear Plant or any of its Security Structures.
  • Boat covers must be removed prior to entry.
  • Tampering with buoys or other structures on the lake is not permitted. Do not tie boats to buoys.
  • Jug lines and trotlines are not allowed.
  • Visitors are prohibited from entering restricted or buoyed areas and are not permitted to go ashore except in the marina area. Any violation of a restricted area which is deemed a willful act by the Licensee (Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant management) can result in the boat operator’s immediate expulsion from the park.
  • No firearmsweapons or fireworks are allowed in the park or on the lake.   • Vehicles must remain on roads and parked horizontal to the water where parking bumps are not in place.
  • Pets must always be kept under control while in the park.
  • Visitors should be aware that the lake area is a natural habitat for potentially dangerous reptiles and other animals. Appropriate care is necessary.
