NoI'm not a Human

This game has been blowing up recently on YouTube. Starting as one of four games in the Violent Horror Stories: anthology for only $2.99NoI'm not a Human easily steals the show.

A sort of hybrid between a visual novel and a very small walking simulatorthe plot is as follows:

The sun has exploded (?!)and now it is not safe to go out in the daytime lest you burn alive. At night it is safe to travel but hostile human-shaped creatures called visitors have begun appearing. They start by killing travelers and soon infiltrate and kill survivor enclaves from within.

Each night people come to your door and ask to be let inyou must determine if they are human or imposters.

During the day depending on who you let inyou can ask them questions or check them for signs of being a visitorwhich are relayed to you by TV in the morning. You use energy for every conversation and have to go to sleep when you use it all upso spend your power wisely. If you suspect someone of being a visitoryou can kill thembut you better be sure lest you kill a human. Some people have unpleasant personalities but are fully humanand most visitors lack any obvious tells until you've already let them inwith potentially disastrous consequences.

The game has multiple endings. Being paranoid and refusing to let anyone in results in a bad ending. Being too generous gets you outnumbered by visitors and killed in the night.

The anthology version is basically a demo that lasts a few nights. Reception was so popular that now the devs are working on the full game and apparently plan to release it in "six months" last time I checked.

I played and found it to be a very immersive experience that was dripping in atmosphere. I'll be watching development closely.

I really dig this. A nice short gamebut it's really well done for what it is. My favorite part isjust because someone trips some of your testsmultiple eventhat doesn't mean they actually are a Visitor. Shiteven one I thought was fool proofit turned out noit was a human.

The slightly off kilter art helps tooyou can't judge purely on looks.

Which one?
The bald guy in a suit?

That guy is a human... But he's totally insane. He still would kill another human inside of your house if you let him live because his delusion think he was a Visitor even though he's not.

The guy in the flannel who didn't want his picture taken. I was suspicious of him and when he didn't want his pic taken (He's scared of bright flashes)I fired. I realized my mistake (cuz for some reason he wasn't put in bags like other humans,) when another Visitor gladly let their picture be taken and went down laughing as I killed her) That got me.

The guy in the flannel/the lumberjack is a Visitorhe's afraid of bright flashes. The guy were working in a woods with bears and he also said that he got his shotgun taken awayguns produce bright flashes. Massive contradiction on his story.

Just what are the visitors?

You'd think given the name that they are shapeshifting aliens.

Then it is said that they come out of the ground.

Are they sapient zombies? Aliens possessing corpses? Demons or other malevolent forces possessing the dead?

The game is definitely blowing up for a reason. The mechanics of making decisions under threatwhere uncertainty is keymake every night a new challenge.Balancing trust and suspicion creates an amazing atmosphere of tension.Alsothe multiple endings really boost replayability! For methe most fascinating part is the psychology of the charactersHow much can you learn about people in extreme conditions?I'm eagerly waiting for the full versionI hope the developers don't let us down with the storyline 🙃

Waitwas he? I watched a youtber where they didn't kill him(it's been getting more attention)and it turned out alright. Perhaps he's bugged currentlyor when the video went out.

The news leans towards underground dwellers as dirt under the fingernails is one of the signs. I would find it darkly hilarious if they were planning their invasion for some timeonly for another disaster to start right as they made their move. And it's one that hurts them as well. That saidnot all visitors even realize they ARE visitors. As least I don't think sothere's two that seemed kinda taken aback.

I had the hobo with perfect teeth in my house and nobody died by the end even if he (?) left a body behind when I killed him in previous runs.

What I wonder ishow long could you survive in this apocalypse? Even without the visitorsthe sun fucking exploded. Pavement is melting in the daylight. Brush fires are breaking out. That can't be good for the ecosystem. Or for farmers and other food producers.

Either you stay in your house or come out at night to risk lootingfacing other desperate peoplevisitorsand many other dangers.

If you're smart enough to have stocked up on canned food and other essentials before this disasteryou're only delaying the inevitable.

Food and water will run out eventually. Having a well will help you keep waterbut you will have to maintain it. If it is located outside your housegetting water must be done at nightwhich comes with its own risks.

Utility services will fail with no one to maintain them. Electricity is still runningenough for broadcastsbut how long will that be?

Once foodwaterand electricity run outyou will have to choose between staying or leaving and living a nomadic existencehuntinglootingand gathering during the night and staying hidden from the sun during the day.

How long could humanity go on in this situation? With night being the only safe time to move aroundhow would civilization still function?

And of course with the fires caused by the sunhow long will food sources like animals and crops last?

Obviously some billionaires living in a massive underground bunker would last longer then civvies hiding out in a one story homebut overall the continued survival of humanity and the rest of life on Earth does not look good.

Even without the visitorsthe solar flare is rapidly heating things up enough to melt asphalt and burn people to death in the daytime. Food sources like crops and livestock would be affected by this.

People not working during the day means that food and other resources are being taken off shelves and not replaced. Once the first few monthsweeksor even days of looting are donethat's it.

Scavenging won't last forever. And the sun is only going to get hotter.

How long could mankind last?

Played it three timesit was alright. Already playing the demo takes the bite outnothing beats the first experience.

But I do appreciate that whether or not guests are visitors appears to be randomizedin all my playthroughs the bar guy was human and the nervous lady was always a visitor but never killed anyone like in the demo. I also liked the new guests especially that poor burned guy.

And that final preview was terrifying.

Did have a chance to play it today. Nothing can beat the mystery of a brand new game experiencebut I still enjoy it. I am having to second guess myself a fair bit more which is good. I still find the smiling man to be creepybecause I honestly can't tell if he IS a visitor or something else. He makes no effort to trick younor does he do anything to intimidate you. He's just so creepy in a good way.

I am thankful the devs made an anti creep move towards the kid in not letting her armpits get checked. Makes sense toohair there really only forms after puberty.

In the current demo three guests are the same every playthrough.

Bar Guy and Little Girl are always human.

Hunchback is always a visitor but never attacks.

Bar Guy is a damn bro.

That being saidthere is one area where I do think needs just a bit more fleshing out and that's the door interrogation.

If people being visitors is randomizedas more work as it will bethe game would benefit immensely from the questions having more variety based on who is what.

Nothing major or overtbut just little things that could niggle at youbut also not quite enough for you to fully distrust them.

It's something I don't envylord knows it WILL be more workbut that's also the most obvious area of improvement.

Who are you letting in for your first playthrough?

-Bar Dude: My brohas good advicewisdom that comes from a hard lifeplus he's so iconic

-Little Girl: I have to pay back my bro neighbor for giving me free beer and warning me about the threatplus who can so no to a face like that?

-Amogus Guy: He's just so funny

-Burned Dude: The paper he hands us might be essential to a good ending

-Sun guy: Funny attitude but is ultimately harmless when it comes to his religious beliefs. Even gives you a free EnerJeka allowing you to have more energy for checking guestsplus ultimately he has some very relatable motives (Losing his wifebeing mad about economic inequality and government bullshit before the Sun explodedhe's actually happy that he doesn't have to deal with that anymore)

-Widow: Determinator who wants to give hubby a proper burialI can respect that

-Surgeon: His medical skills would prove usefulplus I like his grandfatherly aura and wisdom

-Bearded Hunter: I can appreciate his desire to take a fight to the enemytime will tell what he will be like if randomized to appear as a human
