Camshaft Replacement

Been having crankshaft sensor error codes for awhile. Eventually led to rough/long start and then crank with no start. Shop replaced the timing chain guides. Timing chain is in good condition and aligned. Shop suggested that at my mileage (225,000) other major engine components could become an issue and that it would be more economical in the long run to replace the motor. While I buy that logicI can not come up with the thousands of dollars quoted for a replacement. Wondering if it is worth investing in new camshaftsrockersand liftersas that would be more reasonable budget wise.

@Old Dogger is spot on. Depending on how the engine in question was maintained it could be in need of a valve jobnew headsa complete rebuildetc. and become a money pit real quick. Unless I was going to rebuild it myself I'd look into a swap or a re-manufactured engine. You'll also find just buying parts for a rebuild and trying to find a good machine shop makes it a very costly joband most likely not worth it. Good luck!

Three votes for a complete engine swap out. If you got 225k out of a 2012 3.6L you were a good parent to it and it deserves a merciful retirement. The Jasper replacement suggestion is soundthey make a whole series of improvements and upgrades to the first gen 3.6L.

I was in a similar predicament and after stripping down the old engineit turned out to be not that much more to swap for a remanufactured. If you got 225k out of the first oneyou’ll likely do as well on a replacement. Another vote for engine replace.
No whining now …..
